My boyfriend and I recently attempted to have lunch at Dave and Buster's in Ontario, CA. He is a 30 year old U.S veteran. Before we entered 2 black gentlement entered the facility without being asked for I.D, we were asked to present I.D and my boyfriend proudly presented his U.S veterans card containing a picture and date of birth. We were told they did not recognize a United States Government issued I.D. He then pulled out his california I.D, this did not suffice again. We turned to walk away and noticed a family entered without showing I.D, they were black as well. The girl working the door was black as well, I can only see 3 reasons why we were denied entry,
1. They dont support U.S troops
2. My boyfriend is a white male
3. Im hispanic

We then called the manager seeking an explanation, or at least and apology and we received none and told this was in no way racist. I've known several other people that have had similar experiences at this particular location.

In the original post Jocelyn sayd she is Hispanic and her Boyfriend is white. In her last post she says she is white? Which is it.

I think this report is bogus and she is just upset that she couldn't pull on e over with her fake ID

You have to remember southern California is a Melting pot. I am an American citizen and proud of it. My perants were born in Mexico and became american citizens. As for me, I look middle easter. People ask me if i'm Iranian(persian), Armenian, etc. D & B usually asks for ID after a certain time on the weekend.

I do not get offende when they ask me for my ID. One time a companion of mine had a Texas ID that was expired and didn't want to serve us. I know they are protecting the alchohol license they have. Sometimes it's hard to understand. Here is my example, I own three restaurants in Los Angeles, one in Missouri, and one in Kansas. here in LA most of my employees are of latin decent and in the other two state they are caucasian, afroamerican etc.

My standards have always been high. I treat m employees equal. I was in kansas two months ago to celebrate are 5 year aniversary. I took my employees to a TGIF and shgave them a credit card(not an atm card) at the bar. The bar tender asked me for my ID and I gave him my DL from California. Next an asst. manager came by and asked me if I could afford 3 hourd at the bar with 10 of my employees.

Myself, I believe in the good old green. I was upset but I told him if I could leave $2,000 in cash as a deposit(just to see his reaction). I took out the money and he said it wasn't a problem. Sometimes it's hard to understand but I love this country. It has given me more than I can Imagine. In LA that would never happen but I understand their point.

Never play the race card. Be proud of who you are. Believe me, at airports, I get checked two time. It's all good because if thats what it takes to keep this country safe, it's a risk i'm willing to take.

Bottom line i presented 2 forms of ID with my picture and date of birth on each, i was simply not let in to the establishment because i am white. Almost all manager and security at this location are black, and if you go there on a friday or saturday night, the people that attend there are predominantly black. If this was a black guy being discriminated against it would be a whole different story. Simple fact is i was not let in because i am white. In the state of california i am a minority.311

Robert, I think she meant the VA ID Card

Robert,

As a Disabled Veteran myself, I have an ID from the VA with my picture on it that identifies me as a disabled veteran. It is like an insurance id card with a picture.

However, I would never use this as primaty identification outside of the VA system. I think that was inappropriate.

I am so tired of the race card being played. Bottom line is, if you dont like the way you were treated or the level of service recieved, don't go back! Simple!

Fake ID = root of the problem perhaps???

I agree with Robert ... I too have never heard of a "US Veteran's Card." Also, I took the liberty of checking to see if such a form of "ID" is legally acceptable, and it is not.

What exactly is a "US Veteran's Card" and where did your boyfriend obtain this?

When I was on active duty, I had my Military ID Card. As a Disabled Veteran, I have a VA ID Card. What is a Veteran's Card?

Why don't you tell us what REALLY happened?? I see absolutely nothing in your story that points to the restaurant truly being "racist" or "not supporting the military." What details can you offer to prove your allegations?

Why some people cry the race card at every opportunity is beyond me ...

I have been to that particular location several times when in S. Cal and have never had a problem. I am caucasian and a veteran, my husband is hispanic. Was there a problem you are not addressing with the ID your boyfriend tried to present, or did you both develop attitudes and give the staff a hard time? The rules they have are quite specific:

Reminder About House Policies.
Dave & Buster's welcomes all our guests. We respectfully remind you that Dave & Buster's is primarily an adult establishment. We have long-standing house policies relating to the admission, conduct and safety of all guests. Please read and respect the policies listed below. Some stores may have additional guidelines - please contact your location for these additional guidelines.

Guests under the age of 21 (legal drinking age) must be accompanied by a parent or guardian 25 years of age or older, (30 years of age or older for San Jose and Ontario locations), who agrees to be responsible for the conduct and safety of the underage guests.

The following locations enforce a year-round 11 p.m. curfew for guests under the age of 21: Bethesda, Philadelphia, San Jose, Ontario, Chicago, New York City
One parent or guardian can accompany up to a maximum of four underage guests, (maximum of 3 underage guests in NYC) .

Underage guests must remain with their parent or guardian. Our other guests appreciate this and our insurance carrier requires it.

Guests must behave courteously.

Loud and/or abusive language will not be tolerated.

No pipe or cigar smoking. No snuff or chewing tobacco.

Smoking permitted in designated areas only.

We will not admit anyone who is obviously intoxicated. We will gladly arrange taxi service for our guests.

Please observe the following dress code:

Appropriate, clean attire required.

Now, instead of the futile cry of discrimination, why don't you tell us what REALLY happened?
