Recently I changed my Verizon cell phone service to include text messaging. The first bill I received after making the change had a charge shown as Premium TXT Messaging for $9.99. I thought it must have been some kind of charge for making the change - phone bills can be pretty confusing anyway. I checked the next bill when it came in and it was there again, so I called Verizon to find out exactly what it was, because I thought if it was part of my monthly charge, it was a little more than I had expected. They told me it was some kind of download subscription and told me a number to send a text message to stop the subscription and a number to call to try to get my money back. I was told that I had subscribed by answering a text sent in response to an online pop-up. I cannot find any such text in my text inbox, and I feel sure I would have remembered a text asking me to confirm something I was not at all interested in. I would have also remembered responding to a pop-up, unless trying to close one is considered an agreement to send money for something I don't want. for They did agree to refund the charges, so I'll see whether they send it back within the time they told me. Hopefully I'll get my money back, but I will certainly check my phone bills more closely in the future.
