I received a bill from Dataline Credit in 1997 stating that I owed a bill for $545 for a car that was no longer mine. This car was impounded by the city of Long Beach and someone purchased the car in May 1997. The new owner of this car left the broken down car on the side of the road and I tried to explain to Dataline that this car was purchased from an auction but if they would give me the licence plate number I would have DMV locate the correct owner since I am no longer responsible for this car.

The company told me they didn't have the information and I needed to get the information myself. DMV has no record of a car being registered to me, I called the city of Long Beach and they need the licence number, Dataline says they don't have this information. If no one has the license number why is this on my report after 5 years. just recently 7-05 Dataline placed a second account on my credit report.

The original amount was $545 and the new amount was for $548. Equifax verified the the second account was a duplicate. I have been fighting this for 6 years. It seems like anyone is able to put whatever they want on your credit report and it's acceptable.
