In August of 1998 I entered into a rental agreement with David Crockett. He seemed very nice and accomodating at the time including telling me that he would fix anything I needed to be repaired and even reupholstered my Living Room furniture at a discount.

Well, I had the Gas company come out to light the furnace and I was told that the igniter was broken. I then informed Mr. Crockett and was told that the Gas Company was mistaken and that I had to simply turn the gas up higher and then the pilot would stay lit. Well this was my first apartment and this sounded a little strange but I went along with it.

Well, soon my Gas bills were escalating to upwards of $300 a month for a single person who doesn't cook or really use gas all that much. Then I phoned again to tell him that the electrical sockets were worn out and that they should be repaired. He said he would take care of it. Want to hear what he did? He stretched the plugs on all of the appliances in the house so that they fit better. Then the door knob to the front door broke and he came up to repair it saying that he wasn't going to replace the knob because it was an antique and it was worth a lot of money. Well the knob continued to break at least once a week leaving me locked inside the house several times.

The biggest thing came in the Summer of 99 when the window in the living room separated from the glass and broke. I informed Mr. Crockett of this and he said he would repair it. I knew he was having some financial problems so I said hey its Summertime don't rush but just get it done.

Well, when August turned to November and I noticed how chilly it was I again contacted Mr. Crockett to ask when the windows would be repaired. He said he would get right on it. I came home the next day to find Saran Wrap in the place of the broken pane. Well with the first big wind the Saran Wrap came loose and the house was freezing. He made me go through the whole Winter with no glass in the windows. Over the course of that Winter I had Pneumonia and several bouts with the flu because in addition to the pane breaking, he never properly placed latches on the remaining windows so when a good wind came through the windows blew completely open and broke.

When I asked when they would be repaired he said he wasnt going to replace the glass because I had let the windows break on purpose. When I refused to pay rent until the matter was rectified, he placed a for rent sign on the property and gave my phone number as the contact.

I eventually was able to find a better place to live and informed him I would be moving in a month. He promptly served me an eviction notice and then did watched me from the peephole everytime I loaded a box in the car. His wife then harassed the lady I hired to clean to the point where she could not finish the job to hers or my satisfaction and had the nerve to send a letter saying I owed him $650.00. He owes me mony on my Security Deposity which he was supposed to keep in an interest bearing account.
