The David's bridal store in the Wyoming Valley Mall in Wilkes-barre, PA is completely terrible. My brother is getting married this summer, and his fiancé has chosen to come here for her dress. When we went the first time to get hers, it was this past December. She found one she fell in love with, but didn't have enough to buy it out right. So she asked if she could put a deposit on it. They said yes, but she would have to pay it off in full before January or they aren't responsible if that style is no longer in the store. Ummm, what?

They explained that every January, they get a whole new line of dresses in and most of their old inventory becomes out of stock. They said that even with a deposit, they can't be sure that her dress would be one of the styles that they kept. How ridiculous is that? So, my sister ended up applying for their credit card just so that we could buy the $500 dress and make sure she had it available. And it gets better! We went back at the end of January for us bridesmaids to get fitted for our dresses. My family is a bit of a heavier build type of people, and we all struggle with our weight.

Well, the staff here at David's bridal had absolutely no problem shouting our dress sizes across the store to other staff who were writing them down. Meanwhile, there was a family sitting next to us, watching everything we were doing and now they were told our sizes. How nice!! Thanks, David's bridal! Then came the subject of alterations. In addition to buying the dress, any alterations were a minimum of an additional $100 (or more depending on what needed to be done). Alterations should either be included or severely cheap because you're buying the dress from them!

We decided it would be cheaper to have a tailor fix them. Now comes the complicated part - getting our dresses and shalls. There are 5 total bridesmaids. We each ordered our dress and shall with our seperate names and phone numbers. One bridesmaid got a phone call saying both her dress and shall were ready for pick up. Now, I must point out that we live 30-40 minutes away, depending on traffic. She was warned that she has to come down to pick it up within 10 days or, yet again, they are not responsible for storage and they could be lost or damaged.

So this particular bridesmaid hurries up to drive down there and pick it up. Well, turns out that only her shall was ready. The dress still hadn't arrived. She drove all that way for a shall even though she was told her dress was ready! About 2 weeks later, the rest of us get the same call. Apparently all of our things were now ready. Conveniently, I was going down there for the mall anyway so I went to pick them up. I ended up getting only 4 dresses and 3 shalls. That means that we are still missing one dress and one shall (since the first bridesmaid picked up her shall already).

I became upset with them because we were told everything was in and it wasn't. So now there will be a third trip to make! The dress that is missing was my sisters, and she still has the voicemail on her phone saying that her dress was ready! But, it's not! And now were being told that even though the shalls were all the same size and all ordered at the same time, the last shall won't be here til April. Where is the logic in this? Once I got home and realized I was missing a dress and shall (I know I should have checked while I was there, but those dresses were so bulky and everything covered in plastic it was hard to tell what was what) I called them to ask about it.

They had said that the dress was there but the shall wasn't. I gave the girl attitude and told her this is all very unorganized and ridiculous. She said she apologized and she will have the dress shipped to us so we don't have to drive back down. I asked if the shall would be shipped to when it came in and she said no! I got upset over that as well, and she put me on hold for a long time. Someone from alterations department answered and had no idea what the issue was.

So either they purposely transferred me to the wrong person or they were just ignoring me until an unknowing person picked it back up. Either way, it was very unprofessional! During this whole experience I didnt feel like they were at all trying to help make her wedding better. Their dresses (although cheaper than other places) are still very expensive and their policies are stupid. You can only hold items for 10 days? You Cant garuntee a dress won't go out of stock? I will never do business with them again and that sucks for them because we have 3 more weddings in the near future. Oh well!
