Bought a $1500 Sphynx kitten from Dawn. She told me she had been breeding "for years" and had the best lines and cats. My boy was super skinny and tiny when I got him but she said that was "normal" for sphynx. In the first two months I spent probably close to $1000 in vet bills. Kitten wasn't gaining weight, started coughing and sneezing, started having runny eyes, poop could clear a room it smelled so bad. I had to do fecals, take chest xrays, get 3 different medications for this poor kitten. Everytime I emailed Dawn for help, she'd take her sweet time getting back to me then give me a super basic googled answer. It became perfectly clear realy quick that she was not a reputable breeder or cat owner. she'd tell me things like "feed him pumpkin" to stop diarreha however that only masks the problem, doesn't fix it. Barely three years later, my boy started having breathing problems and I had to take him to a specialist. He has something called HCM and will need expensive medicine for the rest of his (very shortened) life. I was told NOTHING about this horrible disease when I purchased my kitten. when i emailed dawn and told her she said her cats are all "clear" for HCM and it's not always genetic so it's basically not her problem. when i asked her for proof of the parents "clear" reports, she couldn't provide them although it SAYS on her website she screens. about a week after i emailed her, all her cats 'dates' on her website changed to make them more recent. i also found out she had a go fund me page to help "pay her bills" while she has a back problem (people raised $1800!!!) for this sh**y breeder and the entire time she was posting her go fund me page and how much she needed help she was traveling (flying) out of state for cat shows and selling 1500 kittens. I'd stay very very far away from this horrible lying woman.

The cattery Dawn of the Sphynx is a respected reputable breeder in the cat community. I have spent time with Dawn at many cat shows and she puts time and care into her cats and kittens. This is the second year I have known Dawn and our cattery is on her list to receive our second kitten from her. The first kitten we adopted was well socialized, loved, and cared for. I know her cats are scanned for HCM seeing as the scans are done at many of the shows.

I have sent referrals to this cattery and had nothing but great feedback. Her cattery is small and well managed.  When kittens are placed into their new home environment, the stress of the move can often cause Upper Respiratory Infections as their immune systems are still in development.  Sphynx also have very high metabolisms and some do not gain weight or keep it easily.  Many of them also have very sensitve stomachs. As far as HCM, it IS genetic but can skip generations.  What this means is that parents can scan negative for years and then produce kittens that eventually develop HCM.  It's a horrible disease that rears it's ugly head randomly, even when breeders scan the adults in their breeding programs yearly.
