Is DRS a real company with real debts to collect? I've been terrorized by them for the last 7 years to collect a debt for a supposed call made to Tuvalu,  TV, a country in the middle of the pacific ocean with a population of 12,000 people. The story goes that this $300.77 was originated by EMBARQ who sold it to DRS from a "paid in full" Sprint account. Sprint verified it. DRS is relentless with their calls and mail. After 7 years, they finally offered me a settlement offer for half of the amount in which I paid to stop their annoying tactics and only collection debt that haunts my credit. How easy is it for them to tarnish your credit with the bureaus? I guess any company can submit collections for any reason. Months later, I am still without a "paid in full" settlement letter they promised me. However, I did receive another bill for $170.00 a couple days ago. I called and Ms. Luke answers asking for the last four of my social. I told her that it wasn't important and that I wanted to talk to her boss because I haven't received my letter and received another bill. Of course, I had to dial my acct # before she answered so she tells to hold on. She comes back with an attitude and says the "system made an error," "the account has been paid in full." "The new bill was a mistake." I then told her that I wanted the letter I was promised. With more attitude, she asks me to verify my address. I said I want a copy emailed to me so that I don't have to call back while I wait for the hard copy. She tells me that I "can only have one or the other;" her "system does not allow for separate requests." So I requested an email version. Two minutes later, I get a word document from an email from Elliot Schwartz. It looked like a document a child who just learned how to used MS Word put together. There were no details of when the account was paid and a place for a blank signature, Jennifer Furman, Office Manager, to sign. I called back, entered my acct #, Ms. Luke answers. She sounded surprised her cause I remembered her name and voice. I told her that this letter was unacceptable. She says with an attitude, "hold on!" Mr. Elliot Schwartz, the high all mighty, picks up with an attitude. He tells me he is the owner and that this is how all letters are sent out. I asked him why the letter is not signed by him if he was the owner and sent out in this fashion? More attitude comes my way, "this is the process we follow so that not everybody can send these letters out." I asked him why are him and his employees so defensive in resolving these matters? He calms down a bit and says "how would you like the letter?" I said with an original signature and a pdf version. Two minutes later, I get an email, this time with a childlike handwriting signature for Jennifer Furman. I guess it doesn't really matter since who knows if they're a real company anyways. No matter, I have the statement for the settlement offer, my bank account to verify payment, and emails from Elliot from DRS with the settlement paid in full. I'm going to check my credit here in a couple of days and if it isn't gone, I will sue for harassment, a false collection, and most of all pain and suffering. With the amount of complaints out there about this company, I'm surprised they are still in business. It's only a matter of time, companies out there with better scams have been busted for less by the feds. And I'll tell you what, Ms. Luke, Elliot, and Jennifer Furman, think of me and all the other people out there in the U.S. that you have been terrorizing. Hopefully you got enough money saved up buried in a hole somewhere in the back your trailer because everything will be seized and you will be dealing with legal issues for the next 10 years of your life.

Don't make the same mistake again

The first mistake you made was paying anything on a debt that was past the statute of limitations - and this one was at 7 years.  And, trust me DRS knew it.  By making payments you restarted the clock on the statute of limitations thereby enabling them to post it to your credit bureau report which actually LOWERED your credit rating.

Never ever pay on these kinds of things to 3rd party debt collectors on debts past the statute of limitations.  If they file a civil action (which some of them do to get a summary judgement in their favor) show up in court to prove it is past the Statute of Limitations so they don't get the default judgement against you.

Lastly, send them a cease contact letter via the provisions of the FDCPA.  Sue them if the violate it.
