I hired DeckCrafters to complete a rebuild of my deck, along with the construction of a new patio, fire pit, and retaining wall. The project was estimated to take 3-5 weeks and was started in April '09.

As of August (4 months later), the project is still not done. I ended up having to engage another company to complete the project and correct much of the poor quality work that was done (retaining wall, brick bench, damaged deck boards, etc.). This also includes damage they caused during their construction work to my hot tub, driveway, lawn, trees, and the gas leak in my house from the new line they ran to the fire pit. The corrective work is estimated between $15,000 - $20,000.

The DeckCrafters crew was nice enough, but showed up very inconsistently. We literally went multiple weeks without any work being done on our project. Each time I called to inquire / yell, I was simply told more lies or given new unrealistic expectations for project completion. The owner, Keith Colton, simply took on way too many projects all at once, with no hope of being able to complete them in the committed timeframes.

In fact, I know of 3 other customers who had the exact same problems I experienced. Despite calling references and checking with the Better Business Bureau before selecting Deck Crafters, I now know that I made a very bad decision in hiring them.

Consider yourself warned.
