Complaint Review: Decorators Model Homes

I purchased a bedroom set on eBay in August, 2006 from Decorators Model Homes of Arlington Heights, Illinois, dba decorfurn2001 on eBay.

The original bedroom set was $1,949.00 which I paid through PayPal to Ilana Greene's account, per Mel's request on August 15, 2006. According to the shipping information on the eBay auction page, the furniture would ship in 3-5 weeks from the date of purchase.

I contacted Mel again regarding 2 additional pieces we wanted to add to our order to complete the bedroom set - the gentleman's chest and an additional nightstand. Mr. Lieberman quoted a price of $1,490.00 for these additional pieces. On September 9, I called him back and ordered the furniture. Mel asked me to pay to the PayPal account for Jason Moore, which I did. The total amount paid is $3,439.00.

I kept in touch with Mel regularly, calling to find out when my furniture was going to be shipped. I either got a sob story about how a customer had mistreated him (I wonder why??)...and he'd get back to me, a story about how he was having difficulty getting the furniture from the company...or he'd tell me to call him back when he was "in the office" so he could give me my shipping information. I'd call back when he told me to, but it always went to voicemail...or his voicemail was full. I would keep calling and eventually he would return my call with the current story of the day.

The last time I heard from Mel Lieberman was February 9, 2007...he told me to call him back on Monday, February 12, and he would give me the shipping information. I called every day for 2 weeks and left messages. Mel has not returned my phone calls or voicemails since February 9th. I sent a letter on March 7, 2007, giving him till March 23 to either receive my furniture or a refund via UPS overnight letter with signature required. Mel has not responded to that letter by email or mail.

To date, I have not received either my furniture or my money refunded. I have filed a case with my local sheriff's department, which is to be referred to the Cook County (Illinois) Sheriff Department and filed a complaint with the Illinois Attorney General's Office.

Do not do business with this company!! Check the BBB - they are not members and their problem resolution record is not good. I wish I had done that prior to giving them my money, but I had never had a problem with an established company on eBay. Decorators Model Homes/Mel Lieberman are scam artists...plain and simple! They take your money and it disappears into a black hole...which is apparently Mel's pocket!! This is fraud...theft...and they need to be arrested and spend a lot of years in jail. I'd be more than happy to go to Chicago and testify against these crooks.

I know the state of Illinois has had previous complaints against the company and I don't understand why the state has allowed them to stay in business. If this is the status quo for Illinois businesses, I won't do business with anyone from Illinois in the future, either.
