On the 10th June 2006, Brittany an Internet Sales Team for Deland Toyota/Scion gave me an internet quote for a new Toyota Corolla 2006 on stock and she spoke to her manager Justin Stoescu about giving me an extra discount as an active duty in the Navy. 14th June 2006, I verifed through the phone about the correct amount I have to write on a cashiers check . I arrived 14th June 2006 at noon time with my cashiers check, and Justin Stoescu stated that the car was not instock, the internet quote doesn't mean anything, Justin tried to sell me another car at a drastically higher priced{MSRP}. I experienced a " bait and switch" and a deceptive way of business.I took my cashiers check and went home.

Good going Hven. On my last car purchase, I too got an internet quote. Each time I got to the dealer with the check, the dealer changed the dealey. I walked right out as you did. And on my way out they would berate me and scoff. It took me 4 attempts before a dealer actually honored his quote.

Most dealers pull this scam with the expectation that you'll stay and take a screwing and then finance with them as well for an even bigger screwing. And unfortunately it works most of the time.

You did the right thing, so I'm sure you'll eventually get the right deal. It's really good to see someone who knew they were going to get ripped off and prevent it.

Hven:

I hope your name is spelled correctly! I must COMMEND you for doing exactly the RIGHT THING!
The average person would have played the role of doormat and bought the other car. But not you...you are SMARTER than the average car buyer!

Just look thru these reports and you'll see a common denominator...

1. The customer sees they are being treated poorly...AND THEY STAY!

2. The customer sees they are being lied too...AND THEY STAY!

3. The customer sees they are being scammed...AND THEY STAY!

Then, they offer the following...

1. "The dealer kept me for 6 hours!" No, you AGREED to stay. They didn't hold a gun to your head.

2. "The dealer sold me...". No, you bought!

3. "The dealer sold me a car with problems and now they won't fix it!". No, you failed to have the car checked out by YOUR mechanic and you agreed to buy it with the problems. (How dumb is that?)

4. "The salesman explained the contract and he lied!" No, YOU failed to read and understand the contract BEFORE you signed it.

Car dealers know the average person who comes into their dealership DOESN'T HAVE A CLUE what they're doing. That's why these scams and con-games continue to spread like wildfire. The car business is choking on the stench of its fraud.

You need to be commended for what you did and a fantastic example of not only a smart consumer but a smart consumer in the service of this country. Just think Hven, the average person would have bought the higher priced car, thus rewarding the con-man!
