I purchased a new Dell XPS 15z on 6/23/2012 in less than 3 months began experiencing problems with the cd/dvd rom drive and the motherboard.  Dell solution to resolving a issue with brand new laptop which cost approximately $1344.00 is to replace defective parts with refurbished parts.  I honestly believe that dell sold me a used or refurbished laptop and may have done this to other customers as well.
