I upgraded my Dell computer last year with a new hard drive and a brand new DVD burner. Hurricanes hit here in Florida, and I did not get to use the new installations for a few months. When I finally did, I realized that DELL had sold me an outdated DVD burner...it will only burn to a +RW format...which you can't find ANYWHERE!!!

I've made numerous complaints and paid 90% of the bill and finally got frustrated and refused to pay them the remaining $30 on the bill. They turned it over to a collection agency (ICS) who then started calling me at home at 6:30 A.M. ON A SUNDAY (which is pure harassment!!!) and then each and every day after that. I finally had my phone number changed to a private number. I have sent Certified, Return Receipt letters numerous times to Dell and ICS and still have gotten nowhere. I even had an argument with one of thier "techs" online and I copied that whole conversation as well.

This months bill is now $60, and again, I AM NOT PAYING IT!!! My next step is the BBB in Round Rock, Texas and the Attorney Generals office as well. If anyone out there reading this can assist me, I welcome it thoroughly.

I have been to SEVERAL Walmarts in this area as well as CompUSA and Best Buy and Target. I can NOT find them in any of these stores.

Dell knew exactly what they were doing when they sold me the DVD burner. They knew that I knew LITTLE about them and took advantage as far as I am concerned. I have an EXPENSIVE burner that is useless to me. The money was never an issue....trust me on that one. I can afford to buy 4 more computers if I wanted to but why should I have to? I trusted Dell to sell me something I could use and not something that I would have to run around finding DVD's to work in it. My brand new laptop burns to ANY format DVD......what does that tell you?

Nope....won't buy Dell again. I don't trust them to do right by me and this isn't the first problem I've had with them. And by the way...do you know they wanted to charge me an extra $20 for the software to RUN the DVD burner? LOL That's like selling a car with no engine. Nope, I'm done done done with Dell.

Hi Michele,

I quote from your original post - "I realized that DELL had sold me an outdated DVD burner...it will only burn to a +RW format...which you can't find ANYWHERE!!! "

If that sentence does not mean that you consider a DVD+RW burner as being outdated then what did you mean to say.

I certainly do not understand your comment about the age of my computer, as this should not make any difference for a DVD burner. Of course, if your computer is 10 years old then you have no business installing a DVD burner in it anyway. 10 years ago computers were not sophisticated enough to use DVD players/burners.

Anyway, I was trying to help more than criticize. I was only trying to help you utilize your DVD burner by telling you that the DVD+RW format disks are very plentiful, and that if you were still unable to find them in a local store (which I find very difficult to believe) that you can always get them by ordering online. Obviously, for whatever your reasons are, you are unwilling to pursue this approach in order to solve your dilemma.

I fully agree with you that DELL's customer service stinks, but that is no excuse for you to not look realistically at all the options open to you in order to justify your having made the purchase of your DVD burner, or trying to do what is necessary to make it worth your while to have it functioning properly. From what you have stated, it sounds to me like you just do not want to do the necessary research of resources open to you which would solve your problem.

Also, please note that I have not made any mention of the money involved, only that you have made an obligation that you are refusing to complete.

Have a nice day.

In response to your comments:
There is nothing outdated about a DVD+R or DVD+RW format burner. I have one of these DVD burners and I have had absolutely no problem finding several sources for my blank disks. If you are unable to find a store in your local area that sells them, then try one of the many online stores which sell all of the current formats. You obviously have renegged on your contract to pay in full the purchase you have made from Dell and it is well past the number of days that they will allow for a refund. They may be a little insensitive about some situations, but you need to face up to your obligation and pay what you owe them. You just need to search a little bit harder for the DVD Disks you need.

I never said a +R is outdated so pay attention to what you read there guy. And you also never mentioned how OLD your computer is. 10 years? I refused to have to MAIL ORDER the dvd's.....thats RIDICULOUS!!! Maybe you havent read all the other THOUSSANDS of problems others have had with Dell. And as I stated earlier...the money isnt an issue...its how they treat their customers and RIP THEM OFF. Nuff said. Your opinion doesnt count with me.
