I purchased a Dell laptop XPX M1710 in August of 2007. The a/c power adapter died within one year. Dell sent me a new adapter, which died in 3 months. I recieved yet another adapter in April 2008, which has now died as well. Each time I have spent a minimum nof 3 - 4 hours on the phone with Dell customer service, being transferred from department to department, with no one being able to help. Now that this has died a fourth time, Dell will not replace this for free. It is over $100 part, and is known to regularly fail. There are several complaints on the Dell site about these power adapters. The worst part is that there is no other compatible adapter that will work with this system, and these failures are a known issue.

Dell is knowingly forcing its consumers to purchase a $100 part at least once a year for a system for which the customer has already paid over $3000. The customer service members are inadequately prepared to answer questions, and refuse to transfer me to a supervisor. This is a scam and Dell needs to step up and be willing to replace the part as needed, or replace the laptop with one that can use adapters that are actually known to work and last.
