We purchased a dell online Feb 2003, we recieved computer and four days later the hard drive disappeared.

I called tech support and spent many hours on the phone going through Dell's fix it check list. Did not work. They said they would fix the hard drive if we sent it back.We declined asking for a brand new hard drive instead. Dell said to replace we have to send everything back. Dell charged us $150 for shipping and would not refund or credit towards new computer.

Dell refused to work with us on some kind of credit on brand new. Honestly I could keep going on and on about phone calls Ive made to Dell and how they change policy depending on who you are talking to, and you can never seem to reach "management". How do you get any resolve with Dell. We decided to change to HP instead. Basically Dell gave us the run around. What a rip off and waste of time!! DUDE DELL SUCKS!!!

i find it very rediculous that dell wouldnt just replace your hard drive.

from a tech. this is not a complicated or expensive process unless you have pertinent data on the bad drive, and they cant access the drive to restore it. In this case they would have to recover all lost data on the bad drive, and clone(or ghost as we call it) to the new drive. At the volume of drives that Dell buys, maybe they pay 40 us dollars for a new drive.
