I was flying my mother up to see me at 0600 in morning 04/04/2008. She arrived at the check out desk at 0534 and they told her that she couldn't board. Funny thing is that she could board if she didn't have luggage. Then they had they nerve to tell her that they could book her another flight for 3 hours. When I heard that I thought to myself, "That's a load of crap". Anyways, I ended up talking to the guy at the counter and he told me that I could talk to his supervisor but I decided to call Delta myself and find out what was really up with getting a flight re-booked.

I talked to a represenative and she told me that what he said was false and that a another flight could be booked right then. The other thing I thought was funny is that she told me that flight had been delayed because of mechanical problems with the plane. So, in all , I was happy that I got her booked on the next flight and that she wasn't going to be on a plane with mechanical issues. Hopefully, that plane doesn't crash and just in case it does and they don't report any problems , here's the proof.

I'm afraid James is right. You were out of the check in window. Policies like that have to be followed and James is right that they'd likely have to delay the other passengers to help you.

You're totally wrong - Delta did the right thing

From the Delta website

"If you're traveling within the United States and you're checking bags, your baggage must be checked in at least 30 minutes before your scheduled departure time except when traveling from one of the following cities:"

You were no longer within the check in window. And by the way, the paragraph above goes on to list the cities that require 45 MINUTES advance check in for luggage. So rather than hold up the plane waiting on you, they denied you boarding - and correctly so. Sorry, but learn to tell time and get to the counter accordingly next time.
