Delta Airlines Horrible experience, stay away from Delta New York, Nationwide

My wife is flying to her father funeral today on 9/29/11. We have booked a flight with Delta airlines from New York (LGA) to Nagoya via Detroit. When she boarder plane in LGA, plane was kept on runway for 4hr therefore she missed connection flight in Detroit. Next flight to Japan is tomorrow 9/30/11. Now she is stuck in Detroit and will miss her father funeral.
No assistance was offered by Delta at all. No hotel was offered no re booking on earlier flight. Since her cell phone died we are unable to contact her in Detroit airport. I have called Delta requesting assistance and was told that there is nothing they can do to help. And to top it all she cant even get back checked in luggage.
