Dennis Hurley of General Carpentry is a ripoff scam artist. Took $200 for materials but never started the job Albany And Surrounding Areas New York
On 6/26/06 After finding his carpentry ad in the skilled trade section of the albany ny craigslist, dennis hurley came to my home and gave an estimate for carpenrty work. We entered into a verbal agreement for the work during his visit. He said I had to give him $200 up front for materials. We gave him a personal check which he cashed on 6/27/06.

He said he would return "in a couple of days" to do the work. He didn't show up or call that entire week (6/26 - 7/2). I waited another week (7/2 - 7/9) and called him on 7/9. He promised he would come by "sometime before the end of the week". That whole week (7/9 - 7/16) went by without a call or him coming to my house.
For the next 5 days (7/10 - 7/15) he would not answer my calls or emails. On 7/16 I used *67 to block my number from coming up on his caller ID and called him again. He picked up immediately but when I said my name he faked a bad connection by saying "hello?... hello?" and hung up on me.
I called him back a little later and he answered. I asked him to return my $200. He said he didn't have it and to call him back on 7/18... then, he hung up on me. I called him back again and told him I wanted the money today. He said I was "harrassing him and would have to speak to his lawyer" about getting my money back. Without telling me who his lawyer was, he hung up on me again.
I looked his address up in the phone book and went to his home to talk to him in person but he was not there. I left a message with a woman at the residence for him to call me. He called later that day (7/16) and was furious that I had went to his home. He said "I would never get my $200 from him".
I had the police come to my home to make a report. I filed complaints with the BBB and the NYS attorney generals office and am sueing him in small claims court.
