We were sold a used 1997 Montero Sport with 75,000 miles in March of 2004. Cost was $9,999.00- about $11,000 altogether with financing. We put $2,000.00 down.

We Brought it in for servicing on March 31st because the Check Engine lightwas on. Said it was nothing- went on my way. In May I brought in for an oil change. Nothing else was done on this car.

In July the Engine died. After being assessed at 2 different shops ( both could not figure out the problem) We brought it to the dealer. (was originally going to have it towed to the dealer, but they told me that it would not be covered because it was outside warrantee dates.)

After Dealer assessed they told us they could fix our car at a total of $3,500.00. Which as you can see is one third of what the car is worth. And at the same time that my car is stuck in the shop for over a month, the finance department was calling for payments on a car I could not drive. We contacted the Finance Department(D&D Auto) to see if the could finance the service bill. They said they could not.

We went to the sales department and explained everything. The sales manager expressed how "unfortunate" our situation was and the only thing they could do was trade in the car for another. Get this! Trade in value would only be $5,000.00 because they would be trading in with a bad motor! Who is responsible for this!? He told us to talk to servicing and see if they could help us out. After talking to the mechanic (not realizing we bought it there) he told me that the cover to the timing belt was not put on correctly and the whole time I was driving the car pieces were coming off and damaging other parts of the motor. And Guess who he referred me to when I told him I bought the car there? The Sales Manager! Who refuses to assume any responibility for the motor.

The only cheaper alternative The Service Depaartment could give me was to shop for a Used motor and have it installed. We are doing that, but not at Denooyer. I refuse to give any money to them that is not necessary! As a Lower to middle class family of four I deeply resent being taken advantage of and as Far as Im concerned Denooyer is no good! We are by no means looking for a "free ride" but,

Someone needs to claim responsibility for selling us this car with a bad motor, There are better ways to do business!

I have been in the automotive business in N.Y. for almost 20 years. I have been a salesman all the way up to management including finance. I know for a fact that when you purchased that used vehicle with 75000 miles on it that you were offered an extended warranty to cover it in case of a breakdown.

I know this because I was a finance manager and we got paid for selling extended service plans. You were probably offered the plan but refused to pay they extra $20 a month for it and now you are mad that it broke down, I have seen dozens of people like you who refuse a warranty, saying that if it breaks you will fix it and then if it breaks you blame the dealership for selling you a bad car.

When a dealership takes in a trade they inspect the vehicle for problems before selling on the lot, they have no way of knowing if a motor is bad if it is not showing signes during inspection. You should have bought the warranty. It's your fault not the dealers.
