Dental Plus Over-charged Pressured to pre-pay Pasadena California
I havent been to a dentist in almost 5 years. I have DMO that I partialy pay along with my current employer. A DMO is like an HMO for dentists... its cheaper but you have access to limited doctors... I make my appointment and am seen by about 2 dentists as well as a hygenist and another person. I knew what my problems were since I've had them before, just havent taken care of it. I was told that if I didnt take care of it now, it will just get worse (and was shown photos to prove it). I have no ideal what my insurance actually covers so I assumed they would find out since they took my ID BEFORE my first appointment.
I was taken into another room by this woman whos title was 'Customer Relations' but she was more of a saleswoman who made it seem like I had to do this NOW and pay for it NOW before its too late.
The Usual and Customary Fees (UCF) for my procedures came to abut $11k but after my insurance discount it was a mere $2200. What I didnt know is that porcelan (white) fillings that are visible in a smile are covered 100% and cost $10 as an upgrade for back surfaces and molars...
I was charge full price for these which came to $1390 (should of been $20). I was also told I had to pre-pay for the next session (which happened to of been the one that was $1390 + other stuff). I didnt want to shell out the cash so I was offered a dental charge card through CITI to cover $1500 of it at 0% interest for 18-months. I also paid $300 cash for the rest.
My insurance company is investigating this.
Problem is I am quiting my job next week and want this all settled before I do so I dont loose coverage!
