I watching tv. and I recieved a call asking whether or not i had an attorney and i said no and i asked why would i need one. And they said because you are being sued for non-payment of a payday loan. I probably applied for one, but never went through with it.

I never received any paperwork about it and I never received the deposit of the payday loan. The person on the phone asked if i have recieved any documents about me being sued. I said no and then asked me to verify some info which i thought because they had me really scared that i in trouble.

So I did verify some info. Then said the police should be coming to arrest me because i didnt pay the payday loan. Then I said I didnt receive any loan and that you were mistaken and then had the nerve to hang up.

I then called the number she said i needed to call to get more infomation from ther person I needed to talk to. When I did that, someone answered on the second try and I asked for Micheal Gato but it sounded just like the person I talked to the first time when they called and when i asked for him, the person hung up...I kept calling and it just went to voicemail saying you have reached the department of legal affairs and investigation. The voice mail box is full. Please try again later or something to that effect.

Then I finally got through again and it sounded like the same person I talked to the first time...and then she hung up again.

No Debtors Prison..But I Would Be Concerned...

We don't put people in jail due to having 'debt'.  Further, if you were being sued, you would have to be served first.  What I would be concerned about though is that if someone gave you your personal info over the telephone, the place where you applied for a payday loan probably had their database hacked, and your identity is out there ready to be stolen.

I would immediately pull a copy of your credit report and review it to make certain there's nothing on your report that looks suspicious (don't go to any site that forces you to pay for a report).  Then I would put alerts on your credit report; it's a couple of phone calls, but well worth it.  Best of luck to you.
