Complaint Review: Derek Sanders

Derek Byron Sanders had sexual assault charges brought against him in Tulsa County (Case No. CF-19945586 and CF-19955130). For those of us who know him from the Tulsa Memorial High School Class of 1988, or from his time in the local bands Severland and Caustic Descent, this was not a huge surprise.

Derek currently works as credit manager at Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery in Tulsa and lives in Broken Arrow.  Previously, he worked as collection manager at Scott Lowery Law Office, a collection agency. His line of work gives him access to womens Social Security numbers, phone numbers, addresses and workplaces.

Derek has been known since middle school for attaining girls and womens phone numbers, often by dishonest means, and sexually harassing them. Do not give him any of your female friends numbers, even if he claims he needs to call them for something plausible. He will call these women and sexually harass them repeatedly until they have to involve the police or change their numbers. He will call them at three in the morning and ask them if they m********e, tell them hes masturbating, and claim hes masturbated on the telephone with her friends, which may be a lie.

Derek is possessive to a scary degree, even with women hes never dated. If you are female, do not tell him where you live. He will make surprise visits to your home late at night and in the early hours of the morning, often between 11 pm and 5 am. If youre on the telephone when he comes over, hell immediately demand you tell him whether youre speaking to a man or woman. If you do not answer the door and the lights are out, he will come to your bedroom window. If you are not home, he will wait in your driveway or in front of your door for hours, which can make things awkward if you come home with a date. Derek will claim you owe him sex because he drove out to your house,
even though you never invited him over.

Derek has been known to lure women to his place by claiming he has new music CDs that hed like them to hear. Once there, he will tell you that he wants to get comfortable and will take off his clothes. Then he will begin to m********e. If you try to leave, he will block your way. This is quite easy for him to do, since hes physically large, although, surprisingly, not large down there. Do not be alone with him. Derek has had substance abuse problems since middle school, and has been arrested for drugs and driving drunk (Tulsa County Case No. TR-19955682).

Because Derek is physically large and verbally intimidating, few people have wanted to confront him. In addition, for several years, Derek was very skilled at distributing his victims geographically and in fresh social circles, making it more difficult for women to compare notes and track his behavior. Hopefully the internet will reduce both of these issues.
