First They started charging NSF fees even when my acct was postive, the did credit them back after 2 hours of a rep telling me they couldnt, but they didnt know why they were there. Now I use direct deposit, but my wife recently got a job that doesnt offer that, so for the first time in years I deposited a check. I now live in Missoula montana so the only option I have for depositing a check is through an atm. assuming my money was therelike normal, I paid some bills, and was on my merry way...not so fast... ther is now a two day hold on checks, I was not aware of this til I called, oh and all those bills I paid, well nsf nsf nsf, even though there was money in the acct.

now I will have to pay for the "bad checks" so called as well. This will probably cost me well over 400 dollars by the time its over. Also after calling the lied to me and tried to tell me that it was the credit union in missoula that put the hold on the checks.. well my mom and nephew use forest park fcu in Oregon from the same atm , never a hold ever on any of their money. The finally admitted it was their policy, I was also hung up on by a supervisor, while on hold for her supervisor, with the 15 min wait times I must not be the only one having issues. I was then also called "high risk" because some people deposit empty envelopes thats why they have a hold...what load of crock, that is fraud and they can prosecute for that. This is a scheme so the can charge you 90-180 in nsf fees...

The 2 day ATM hold is in Desert School's Terms and Conditions and allows the first $100 of the deposit to be released via the Government Regulation D.  This hold prevents against fraud of people putting an empty envelope in to the atm and keying in an amount, then withdrawing that amount and later, the envelope is found to have nothing in it.  So, thank you neighbors for commiting fraud and causing them to adopt policies to protect against it.  To say that they can prosecute people for doing fraud such as this is laughable.  People commit fraud every day on checking accounts and prosecution of these criminals is a long and arduous journey.  The repayment of any monies owed, is even worse, and almost impossible.  There are a lot of people that rip off financial institutions, and for that, there are rules, such as check holds, to help limit the damage of these rip offs.
