My husband and I just recently bought what we thought was health insurance for our family. To our surprise we got Design Savers Plan. We had no idea what it was. When we purchased the policy it was through a guy out of Portland, Oregan. His name is James Fendley. We spoke with him a few times making sure it was what we needed for our family. He reassured us that it was, about 1 week later we get a package from Design Savers Plan. I called James Fendley, he will not return any of my calls. I called Design Savers Plan and I was passed along to 5 different customer service reps. Heck, one even hung up on me when I started asking questions about the ( Design Savers Plan )

I went online to look up their network of providers in my area, it turns out there wasn't any. I would have to pay for all doctors office visits up front. I called several clinics in my area and hospitals and no one had heard of them. I even got the pharmacy to run a test on my medication savings card and it didn't work. Finally, I called back and I got a helpful customer rep. She told me that They do not service Montana. I have canceled my membership with them... We'll see how it turns out.
Design Savers Plan is a ripoff. If you are looking for affordable health insurance and you get a call from JAMES FENDLEY..... Please don't give him the time of day.

My family is currently without health insurance and I applied online to have quotes sent to me or called in.

So far, the only one to respond is Design Savers. My red lights were flashing as I spoke with the sales rep today:

Red light #1: He told me "You have to call me back before 5PM EST because we throw away all the applications at the end of the day, due to high high demand for our plan".

Red light #2: Payment is due immediately but benefits would not begin until 12/1.

Red light #3: This is a "special enrollment" which is only open 1 month per year and demand is high.

Red light #4: Can't send me any info in writing and must close the deal TODAY TODAY TODAY.

Thank God I came here and looked for the company before making a decision about the program.

Help for Saver Plan

Unfortunately it sounds like you got scammed into buying a discount plan that is not insurance. These plans are very dangerous because salespeople sell them as INSURANCE! Call your attorney General's office right away and report them and file a formal complaint.

If you were set up with an electronic draft for your payment CANCEL that bank account immediately. If you want health insurance call your state Dept. of Insurance and get a list of company's that are licensed in your state to sell insurance and call them and they will give you a licensed agent.

These discount plans are being sold everyday in this country as INSURANCE and they are causing terrible harm to people because of that. Imagine if you had this worthless plan and you got a terrible disease such as cancer. You try and pay for your medical bills with what you think is your insurance plan. You are informed by doctors and hospitals that what you have is not insurance.

Now you are facing hunderds of thousands of medical bills. You try and get a real insurance policy and you are turned away because now you have a disease and it's considered pre-existing so even if a company agrees to insure you, they will not cover any pre-existing illnesses or injuries for 1-2 years.

In the meantime you are saddled with incrediable medical debt and quite possibly risk losing everything you own. This happens EVERYDAY in this country where people have been scammed by discount plans SOLD as insurance to unsuspecting people.

If you hear that "a company covers everybody regardless of health conditions, they pay money directly to you, you can go anywhere you want to, have bogus networks, they put limits like you get 500.00 a day if in hospital", etc. RUN don't walk away! These are signs of a DISCOUNT plan not real major medical health insurance. These plans can sound so much cheaper than real major medical but they can cost almost as much also as the con artists have gotten smarter and raised the prices so the plans appear to be health insurance as people are getting wiser and think if it's too good to be true it probably is. So if its really cheaper or just a little less than health insurance it may still be a discount scam.

I am a licensed health and life agent for my state and I really hate these discount plans because I hear from people that get ripped off all the time and are looking for a real health insurance plan. Problem is I have to turn alot away as now they are already sick and just found out they had no insurance at all and no insurance company is going to pay their claims now for a pre-existing condition right away.

Most individual plans will simply decline them. I really wish these salespeople could see the damage that they do misleading people into thinking they are getting real health insurance. Discount plans sold as INSURANCE prey on young families, self employed, and people that never had insurance and now have an illness. Always call your state insurance dept. and find out if the agent is licensed and if the company is licensed in your state to sell health insurance.

Please warn everyone you know about discount plans because that is the only way that people will know NOT to get involved in a company such as this. Discount plan salespeople are usually told they can make a huge income, they receive marketing training to sell these things, and half the time the salespeople really believe they are selling a good product until they make the mistake of selling it to a friend or family member and then they realize the plans are junk not insurance. Discount plan salespeople have a high rate of turn over.

The person you bought this plan from may be long gone as the companies usually do not pay them anywhere what they promised or he may have simply moved on to his next victim. I've known a few people that even wrote to their local newspaper to warn residents in a community of these plans as ofter salespeople buy leads for an area or state so you will not be the only one near where you live to be ripped off.
