Complaint Review: Detailed Inspections LLC

Detailed Inspections LLC Anthony Johnson Anthony L Johnson Hired to lower wall and didn’t level the new wall so new granite was not level. Also damaged granite when working in the kitchen. Left the new lowered wall in in professional condition. Anthony promised to pay for the damages caused but has fail to follow through. He has not responded to our demands and has blocked me from the only way I can reach him. St. Louis MO

This is a formal complaint with Anthony J Johnson, who is the owner of Detailed Inspection LLC https://www.facebook.com/Detailed4You/. Address is (((REDACTED))), Saint Louis, MO (((REDACTED))). Phone number 314.853.2141. On September 11th I posted for recommendations to help with a project in my home.

We planned to update the house before we list it to sell. That evening Anthony privately messaged me. (Red flag 1 - I didn’t know you weren’t suppose to do that) and told me the job would cost $150. After taking a look at the job some more he quoted me $400 plus materials.

I wanted to lower the wall to counter height, add board and batten detail and cut off 2 electrical outlets. I was installing new granite counters tops so I needed it done soon. From start to finish, well i fired him in the end, but it took around a month to "finish”. Now to the issues.... The board and batten wall was not installed correctly.

From what I can tell he used deck screws to attach to the wall. Most of the boards were not flush with each other. He didn’t caulk well either. I also saw him painting the boards before it went in, then later used a hammer to hit the newly painted board to make it fit. I think it didn’t fit so that’s why many boards are not flat to the surface.

He didn’t sand any of the boards before he painted. I will attach pics of what the wall looked like when he was "done”. The following week I had granite installed and the contractor told me the wall Anthony lowered was not level so they needed to use 2 shims on one side of the newly lowered wall.





When they installed the counters I was shocked to see there was barely any over hang, maybe .5”. My counter contractor added 3” extra from where the old counter tops were. But the wall Anthony built out was so big there was no way to cover up the shims with some kind of wood molding. The only molding that fit were those cheap plastic ones.

I didn’t know any better so I trusted him. The last time he entered the job site, he HAMMERED the NAILS to the small plastic molding. He CHIPPED the brand new granite! He even left the granite chips on the floor for me to find. He claimed he saw them before he installed the molding. Why not tell me?

Why didn’t you take pictures to cover your a*s? Not true bc this area was at the entrance of the walkway, I would have seen it or felt it. He claimed that other contractors came to the house so he didn’t know who could have damaged it. Let me say the only other person that went to my house was my painter.

He painted my entire house in 3 days and was working on the stair case when he showed up that morning. So bc of these reasons he thought this was not his fault and was not going to do anything. He also used a glue adhesive to adhere the molding to the cabinets.

After all the nails the trim still wouldn’t lay flat! He didn’t even miter the edges. He just "painted” the glue adhesive over the trim. It still wasn’t dry after 2 days!! Anthony tried to hide the chip by putting that same adhesive over it.

There was glue adhesive all over the granite. He even left the bent nails on our counter. After that day he was not invited back into my home. He promised to make me happy and he would fix all the issues, but not without some pushing.

I reminded him this would basically ruin his business bc this is not a professional job if I reported to ripoff.com, bbb and his review on Facebook. He decided to work with me and agreed to pay for the damages. At this moment I just wanted him to pay for the epoxy to fix the chipped granite and any additional labor to finish the wall and cabinets.

A friend and a contractor came to help me, he was on strict bed rest but saw how horrible my situation looked so he offered to help. He suggested we use bondo instead of the cheap plastic moldings. For the next week he came over daily to apply and sand everything.

He also sanded the wall Anthony built. He said it was not even so when we painted it it would be noticeable. I will also attach the pictures of the kitchen when he was done. I painted my cabinets myself. I am not a professional but I don’t charge others either.

I don’t think Anthony should charge anyone! His work ethic sucks. He comes to my house and answers calls and checks emails all while at my house. He will plug in his computer and do errands for others in between working on my job. After the repairs were done, we were ready to list the property I messaged him again.

The chip costed me $85. The materials was $15 not including labor from my friend. He told me he would refund me $400 in total in 30 days. I sent him the address to send the check to and waited. I guess I was naive and waited. After the 30 days passed he didn’t pay. I messaged him to ask what is going on.

After 3 days past his due date, he told me he was on a birthday cruise and forgot to pay me back. He would get it paid by Friday. After that time I have not been able to get him to respond to me. We even sent him a letter from our lawyer with no response.

At this point I don’t expect to get my money back but I will take him to small claims for a new slab of granite and all the other things I had to fix because of his negligence. It will definitely be more than $400. I want to report Anthony for failing to refund me for all the damages.

I report him as an unfit contractor who doesn’t know how to do what he promised. His time management is poor. Days went by before I heard from him. He doesn’t respond to messages promptly. Sometimes a week will go by. I am sad I hired him.

I wished I would have spent more money in the beginning and had it done by a professional. But in the end the kitchen is marvelous. I am proud of the blood, sweat and tears I put into it. Attached are all the pictures of how he finished our wall, the chips in the granite and his "fix” for chipping my granite.

I wouldn’t recommend him for anymore. Thanks. Sorry if I rambled this is so upsetting to me. I feel cheated, lied to and don’t know what else to do to make this right.

We used them yesterday for moving services. They quoted us a price which was most competitive in our areas. They arrived late bc their trucks wouldn’t start. They needed us to rent a uhaul for them so they could put my things into the truck? What the heck? Why couldn’t they rent a truck is beyond me.

It took them over 12 hours to move out of our 3 bedroom house which had many furniture items already gone. And they actually didn’t move it to where I needed. They didn’t have dollies or any pads. One person takes off truck, passes to one person and then that person takes to final spot. ONE BOX AT A TIME. I had them leave our stuff in the garage bc of how long it took. What’s even worse is they had to come back to pick up the rest of the stuff that didn’t fit.

They arrived late the next day and still with the slow team from the day before. They promised to be done by noon (4 hours) but now it’s approaching that time and still no sign of them being done. The uhaul is in MY name and I’m liable. The uhaul was suppose to be returned to uhaul yesterday and now it’s going to be another day.

But what’s worse is they moved all the big pieces last so you have to keep using them. It’s absurd. I can’t not stress enough they are not CHEAP. We will spend $2000 and and have many of our items still in our garage and dining room bc they are so slow. I have never seen a moving company not use a dolly. Just move one box at a time.

Show up in a rental truck not even a moving truck of their own. The owner will speak very intelligently but it’s a scam. They are out to squeeze more money out of you. No contract or anything. Just pay my cc on their iPad. REALLY not professional!! I can’t believe we gave them all that money and still need to move all these things to the basement. ** They knew the uhaul truck had to be returned immediately after the move bc uhaul needed it back ASAP.

Markell promised me he would gas up and return the truck. After 2 hours and several more calls from uhaul asking where the truck was I called Markell. No response. Now, the truck is rented under our name so I really need this company to do what they promised. I ended having to call the cops. After the police officer arrived, he made a call to the owner, Darren Robinson, he said his son, Markell, took the truck to the shop where his truck was being fixed to talk to the mechanic.

Wait a minute, he was suppose to drive over to the uhaul place bc I rented this truck for him to move my things. NOT to run errands and add on more mileage. That truck was not in his name. I’ll report back to see if they actually return it. 2.5 hours later and no sign of the truck. Uhaul is closing and still don’t know where it is. The police officer called them again and found they dropped off the truck 25 mins away from where the truck was suppose to go. They left it on EMPTY!!!

I paid for them to use my truck for 4 more hours, maybe hundred of miles more and gasoline!!! They did not reimburse me for this charge!! They are SCAMMERS. They do not do what they promise. BEWARE!! My husband and I had to go get the truck, fill up the gas and drive it back to the right location to prevent all the charges tacked onto the bill. They have no regard on other people’s things. After all this was done guess who called?!? Markell thinking it was another lead for a move. He was so polite and left a pleasant voicemail.

What a joke. I guess the didn’t know I was the person he scammed hundreds from not even including we paid him $2000 to move our things to just the garage. Don’t use them unless you want to deal with the police bc they don’t answer your calls when they have your money. They promised to refund me. Not a chance. They will not.

Update from uhaul company: Manager at cave springs told me Markell and his crew has been placed on E alert for this incident. They were able to link several accounts with different identities for this business now. They will not be able to rent a truck from any Uhaul. They advertise in Craigslist, Letgo, OfferUp and Facebook groups. Beware!!!
