Hello, my name is Keith and I became a student of Devry University in fall of 06 and took out a Stafford loan for the classes I registered for during the end of the A session and the Beginning of the B session. I was told I need another Private loan ($1500.00) taken out without a thorough explanation as to why the loan was needed when I was eligible for financial aid. Aaron, the academic and financial aid advisor of the Gurnee Center, wanted me to get on this right away before he went on vacation.

Well, it turned out he didnt go anyway that week and I was directed the following weekend after class to call Student Financial Services in Chicago at the request of the Gurnee Center administration.

Upon not getting an follow-up from Aaron Salentine (Gurnee Academic/Financial Advisor) I made several phone calls to them and dated the conversation as you can see on the following pages. (Please, keep in mind the dates and how long Ive been dealing with this situation)
BELOW THE FONT COLOR IS CHANGED FOR EASIER DISTINCTION OF PERSONNEL, INSTITUTION, AND DEPARTMENT

Aaron Salentine Academic/ Financial advisor Chicago Student Finance Dept
Devry University/ Gurnee Center 847 553 3879
847 855 2649

3/8/2007 I spoke with Que I.D. # 01029572 Chicago Student Finance.

4/3/2007 Emailed Aaron Salentine (Financial Advisor) Devry Gurnee Center.

4/3/2007 called Student Finance and spoke to Julia who referred me back to Que. Chicago Student Finance.

4/17/2007 called Student Finance and they mentioned what grants I was packaged for particularly, the MAPP and the Illinois grants which exceeded the amount need for tuition.

4/17/2007 I spoke to Dana Student Finance of the escalation team and she said, shed speed the process
Dana checked the Elms system for further notes regarding my account and said she would talk to Que about the disbursements since they were posted. Student Finance.

Dana gave me the number to College Zone concerning the MAPP and IL grants.
Rick Williams College Zone said that the MAPP and IL grant was issued Feb. 26, 2006 negative $2,152.00 of $2,484.00 was disbursed in Feb. 26, 2006

5/10/2007 I spoke with Janelle of the escalation team Chicago Student Finance, and she gave me an itemized list over the phone of all the disbursement regarding my account in which it contradicts the Edu-card/Devry finance account statements Ive been receiving that doesnt show accurate disbursements that Chicago Student finance has on their database.

I created a spread sheet that replicates the Educard statements and Ive updated my disbursements for my personal records. Ive been waiting on the Escalation Department of Devry University Student Finance Dept. at 1866 553 3879 to discuss my financial adjustments and explanation of my current account. I have spoken with several Representatives there.

On March 8, 2007 I spoke to a gentleman by the name of Que I.D. #01029572. Que who first noticed some discrepancies on my account and submitted a ticket to the escalation team for review and no one neither returned my call nor sent an email addressing the matter.

I was asked to contact you in regards to the above mentioned with a letter explaining what seems to be a constant tampering of funds dispersed on my behalf from Gov. Agencies etc. I would really appreciate your support in finding out whats going on with my account since both parties involving Devry are not currently cooperating. Que who was the first person I talked to regarding my account gave Aaron Salentine instructions on what to do upon fixing the matter but, Aaron insists that I wasnt enrolled in Devry to be eligible for the MAPP grant and Chicago Student Finance insists I was eligible.

So, please look into this matter because, my education is at jeopardy here. I mean, talk about a total inconvenience with sitting out for almost two semesters now. Again, I cant express how your cooperation would really be appreciated

Hello Student,

When I enrolled at Devry, it pretty much was a busy time and I felt a little rushed. I've submitted all my documents twice. I may be an isolated incident however, there was another student who had her entire income tax garnished and was upset that Saturday I tried to register for my next classes.

Upon getting the help from the Escalation team from Chicago and the investigation from College Zone not to mention Debra Smith from the Educard Account we all came to this conclusion. Don't get me wrong I grew fond of the Institution and was hoping to finish my degree along with another student who came from Robert Morris College as well. We were classmates there as well as Devry.

The financial advisor wasn't too proactive in helping me find extra money for expenses as I'm sure he did for some there. However, it shouldn't of taken this long for this matter to be resolved.

From Jan 07 to present I finally saw where MAP re-issued the grant money as well as IIA after showing proof of this negligence. Wow! I could be almost finished by now! So don't tell me it was something I did.

With the way these institutions are ran it's d**n near impossible for you as a student to make such a careless or intentional mistake. Give me a break! There are a lot of nieve students stepping into the College world unlearned about the system. It's up to people with business intergrity to lead the innocent to a successful career path. I mean, what is customer service for. Right. Check out the other Institutions comments on this website. It's not an isolated situation and I didn't make this up.

Best Wishes! and complete success be unto the students of Devry! I just wasn't having it and I'm glad to say that with experience we gain knowledge and that's why I'm staying on top of the Current College I'm enrolled in. I'm testing out of classes and I'm getting my degree even faster.

Thank God Almighty! over two grand has been paid and I'm looking to have the interest written-off. Heck, according to my calculations they owe me over $1700.00. Six credits total up $2,790 and with Wachovia, I received $2,289.00, MAP, IIA $250.00. You didn't know he sent the free money back due to verification purposes, which I've submitted twice with the fax submittal to prove it a month in advance. Come on, I'm on top of things here. So, good for you take care.

Sincere Regards,

K.H. Park City, IL.

As a current student at Gurnee location for DeVry University, I have to say that my experience has not been anything close to the story reported above.

When I first started at DeVry, the same advisor mentioned above (Aaron Salentine) was very informative in helping me attain all the financial aid I needed AND he has responded back to every voicemail or email I've left for him. He even got me some additional money when I needed to buy a computer for my online classes.

I know that when I first started, I was told in my orientation that we, as students, were ultimately responsible for our success at DeVry both academically and economically. We were provided websites to view the status of our financial aid as well as the ability to see what documents were missing and how to submit them.

I have a feeling that whoever reported this incident was not taking primary responsibility for their own success and it's sad that someone would blame others and instead of bettering themselves.

I just wanted to let the record show that whoever wrote this was a minority. My classmates and I have had a good experience with being taken care. Normally when someone has problems like this, it's because they failed to do something. Maybe it wasn't like that in this case, but every case I've seen, that's exactly what's happened.

Sincerely,

A Current Student of DeVry

The problem with Devry via Gurnee Center is that they packaged me for the the MAPP grant and returned it stipulating a bogus non fulfillment of a verification docs. Which I proved I did send in a timely manner not once, but, twice. This was done way before the deadline. I've submitted the fax confirmation to prove it. They are still giving me the run around and are not proactive in helping me with my situation. They are trying to wait til the end of the year. They are known for snatching up your income tax return to retrieve money at their negligence. I spoke with the Dean and the representative of the Educard account. No one, I mean, no one is cooperating and they're still stalling. It was clearly a mistake on their part but, refuse to solve the issue instead, they are still sending me a bill statement. Thanks, to College Zone for exposing Devry, Gurnee Center.

I am a proud Devry University alumni from Long Beach/Pomona and also a proud Keller Graduate of Devry University alumni. I gradauted from HS not knowing anything the different colleges that are out there. I only knew of Community Colleges and State colleges (traditional). I attended 2 Jr colleges and then I attended Long Beach State. After 5 years of wasted time, I learned about DeVry University from my manager at work. He was a Devry University alumni and was the SR. Project Manager for Kaiser Permanente. He told me to look into Devry programs to see what I may be interested in.

I spoke to an admissions advisor and the entire program was explained to me in detail including how financial aid works. I missed out on FA benefits because LB State and Community colleges did not explain to me of my options. When I met with my admissions advisor at Devry, she covered everything. I also met with a financial aid advisor in person who helped me thorugh the entire process. Some schools will do everythig for you which will leave you in the dart but Devry guided me through it which made me aware of everything i was getting into. We went over what I qualified for and what my options were. I decided to go part time at first because I did not want to take out any private loans but then after 1 semester, i was very happy with my classes so I decided to go full time. Again I met with my My financial aid advisor to change my status and to get more funds thorugh my private loans.

DeVry University does not allow you to start school without you knowing exactly how much you are elegible for in the entire year and also what your monthly payment would be like part time or full time. They will not allow you to register until you have been approved for everything you need. They are very thourough about the entire process.

They do NOT have any hidden charges, in fact, they even let you know of the smallest charges that you will expect to see like your parking permit.

I graduated 4 years ago with my BS and 2005 with my MBA from DeVry and I am currently earning $120K as a project manager for a telecommunications company.

If it were not DeVry University, I would never have graduated since I hated the state college and how the system did not fit my lifestyle. I was able to work while I was attending Devry. I had no problems looking for a job. Even after I left my first job, Devry was able to help find another one in no time at all. Big companies know of the quality of a Devry graduate. Yes, there may be many small companies that do not know of Devry University because they only know of the State colleges.

I must say that people who read these reports should really look into other resources because these rip-off reports are not justified and they are merely ones opinion.
