Complaint Review: Devry University

DeVry University Back in 2007 I decided it would be a good idea to further my education so I could obtain a decent career in my 30’s. I visited a number of colleges to discuss cost, class options, hours, attendance, accreditation's and such. I decided to go with DeVry University (Portland O.R. Campus). I was promised life time job placement, Discounts for good grades, one employee to handle all my school needs and more. When I signed up to start my schooling I was told I would have no out of pocket expenses. All extra money granted by my lender, above the cost of each semester, would be returned to the lender. After each semester was over my contact lady would give me a check for the money left over. She would then request I return the money before I started my next semester. I was under the impression this money was being returned. I now think most of it has vanished. After attending the school for a while I noticed the staff and operations started changing. The school’s dean of admissions every few months kept changing. My contact lady left and any time I ask for information about my funds or classes I was asked to set an appointment with a different person. Finally I told the secretaries at the front counter I wasn’t leaving till I spoke to someone about my finances. They finally sat me down with a new financial adviser that told me they didn’t have the information on hand and would contact me in a few days. The next day I received an email from DeVry stating I needed to sign a specific form (relocation from) in order to continue my schooling. The form provided to me was a relocation form which in part would void my original contract and schooling cost agreement. I went back to the school in person and said I refused to sign the form. I am not relocating and I do not understand why I cannot receive an itemized receipt for how my money was being distributed. I was then verbally told I had two options. I needed to sign the relocation form or the School Exit Form. To I exited the school. I was then ignored for over one year from DeVry. No transcripts, No receipts, wouldn’t return my emails or letter, it was like I never went there. Sense then my perfect credit is now gone, my credit cards and personal loan money is gone, I was getting harassed by Sally Mae creditors. Up to four calls a day. DeVry stole lots of money from me by ways of federal loans and miss representation. They tried to make it legal by having me sign a form that would amend my contract. I didn’t sign, so they swept me under the rug. I know this was common practice for DeVry University during 2008 through 2012. People all over the country have complained about this same scam. DeVry University (Keller) should be stopped!
