DeVry University RIPOFF Crude, Careless, Conniving - The DeVry Way Decat Georgia

"I was born by the river...in a little tent...[oh] and just like the river, I've been running ever since...!
"It's been a long, a long time comin', but i know a change gone come...!" -Sam Cooke ["Change Gone Come"]

Can that song be any more like the life i embrace today? a Memphis native, now a lowly, Georgia in-debt flunkie, working as an overnight cashier at Walgreens...but wait, this isn't what DeVry "Univeristy" promised me! How stupid i have been to consider this swindle of a school.

i attended DeVry for less than five semesters and i owe d**n near $40,000! Sure, like all the others who have graduated and thank God for their experience at DeVry, i have more disgruntled responses than those of promotion.

My story is this: that d**n school lied to me! That's right! i will hide no longer, my friend. I attended Craigmont High in Memphis, TN, where DeVry "Univeristy" representative [with dazzling smile] Gaynette Price -yep, i've given a name- prmoted the school and told me to my face and later to my parents' faces that DeVry had video game courses and graphic design courses...BULLS***!

i should have listened to my father who warned me of the apparent scheme, but being a hot-headed teen ready to leave the home, i eagerly pursued the tangerine dream of quick graduation and high-paying jobs.

She lied to me; the school denied any of her claims to the school [DeVry campus in Decaur, GA] and its supposed accredited courses. I work with a guy who agrees that the school scammed him too. i mean, i don't know...maybe Devry is the school of everyone's dreams in California and f***ing up-north states, but down here, it isn't anything but slow computers, very few educated teachers, and crappy, overpriced housing with no meal plan whatsoever. H**l, my pschology teacher was the best teacher i had in the entire experience i was there and that course wasn't even a major. *Thank you, Mr. P.*

Here's a tale as well. My apartment was shared by three other guys! And what's more shameful, for three months, three freshmen and a sophomore starved in that apartment, scrounging around for any possible food, stealing food from each other [ a crime in which i was found guilty]. i detest my experience at that school and now i find myself on the outskirts of life, looking at all the scam artists lure innocent hick kids like i once was into their chamber of misbegotten promises.

there is no shame in cursing my campus at least if not the entire corporation. with the exception of a few, like Maria from Loganville, GA stated, the personnel have terrible customer service skills; they could give a less of a f*** if you end up destitute like i would have had God not blessed me to have a few caring relatives down here after they threw me out of the school.

the reason why no one has been able to bring these Advocates of Satan down is because we lack the proof that the school is bull****, but today God has blessed you with a leader. If God will allow any of your hearts to follow me, I will testify against them for you. I lack legal means, but any lawyer who will hear me, i plead insanity from this phony, soulless school.

they can preach all they want about the lazy students who end up broke and confused, but i was not of them. i slacked off as anyone, but for the most part i tried to be focused, but flunked a major because i was not able to grasp the material.

So, in part, yes i fell on my own, but i was sensible enough to change majors, but even then i was dissatified because of the fact i still doodled in class [i wanted to pursue video games, graphic art, etc upon first attending the school] and was constantly approached my peers who asked, "Why the f*** was i at DeVry?" i would tell them how my college rep screwed me and silence would congest the air.

i look around me and all i see are disgruntled faces. There is an increasing number of young people here since i last been there. Yet still old fogies and bubble-reared women still wander their way into the gloomy classroom settings. i got too friends who were screwed by the DeVry and are still attending, but as for me i couldn't reenter even if the blood vessels in my body threatened to pop unless i did because of the loan burden i carry upon my shoulders.

Rest not, dear friends; if there are any like me who would've traded lives a few years ago, i pray for you. i pray for all the financial strife you must be going through. as you may can tell, i aim to become a professional writer. and i admit, if it weren't for the sheer under-handed, conniving, crude-natured, and careless tactics used by DeVry "University" where overpriced books are rarely used during class and "classrooms" are actually "lo-tech" computer labs where the students download illegal music while the teachers screw each other in the janitor's closets...i would not have the determination and dedication to God that i have today!

Perhaps this is what you pay for. Yes, this is the price you pay for ego. Forgive me, Lord, but I must concur with the public that DeVry is one of the worst schools ever to stink up the US "educational" system. True: the students are responsible for much of their downfall as far as life goes, but isn't the job of the teachers and school to mentor and help the students develop the mindsets of sensible adults so that they won't end up paying rent with a 400-dollar allowance every month like me?

Wisdom is the key. Proverbs 22:3: "A prudent sees danger [DeVry scam] and takes refuge, but the simple [eager high school graduates like i once was] keep going and suffer for it."

We are the simple, my friend, and if you're black as i am, the Infamous Willie Lynch letter speaks for itself. But i have reason to belive that scam-artist schools will get theirs in the end. And if you want to ride with me, i'm down for whatever. I always said i would go out shooting even in a knife fight!

My number is . I go by "O-MaN!!!" Hit me up anytime and if you can't reach me, always leave a voice mail. God Bless you, Ms. Price and Sallie Mae [corporate loan sharks]...for one day, God will show you the error of your ways as he has with me by my days with DeVry! You may have shredded my pockets, but I'll be damned if you take my pride and rob me of my spirit and soul...again!

Through God, ANYTHING is possible! Someday, i will prove to you the promise that He has given to me.

You people are just upset that you took a risk and then were too lazy to follow through with it. I am a Devry graduate of the NetComm program and I am now make 72k per year and was very well trained for my position. I have a good friend that was in the game design program and he is now working for EA games as a well paided tester. If you are not willing to put in the extra effort to get high paying jobs or even finish your degree of course you are not going to beable to pay back your loans. Just because you did not realize this before does not mean it's Devrys fault. They tell you from the start that bachlors programs cost around 60k so if you don't plan on finishing then plan to be stuck with the ballance and a crappy job. Your education is only what you make of it. I went to three different universities and they all have problems and some bad professors. You work through it and use the tutoring in place, which is free and easy to access, and follow through with the plan you started. Devry is fully accredited but just like any school it's very hard to transerfer credits. UCF didn't want to take most of my UF credits, which are two close school with the same accreditation, just becuase the course descriptions differed a little. So don't plan on transfering all your credit no matter were your go. Devry accepted most of my general education credit from another school which was great. If your an irresponsible teenage I would recommend community college first. It's not Devry fault that no one in circle of friends and family could give you this advice. My advice to you now would be to go back and finish what you started, since you already invested 40k. That's a hard investment to walk away from for most people, unlike your self.

It is great to see two people come out and tell the facts about DeLie, er, I mean DeVry. To watch these informercials on tv and read the popups on the pc, you would think that going to DeVry and graduating would lead you to a great life and fullfillment. I thought of something after reading your posts. I couldn't put my finger on it. Where I had these feelings before. That everytime I say or read the ads for DeVry it reminded of something or someone. Then it hit me - Carleton Sheets! Remember that guy? How long was he on for always bragging about his longevity and how that meant credibility.

But where is her now? Better question is, how are the people doing that got sucked in to his course of study?

Everytime I see a DeVry commercial or everytime I look at my calleer ID and see that they have tried to call me 8 more times in one day, I feel a strong need to take a shower and get rid of that slimy feeling that comes from thinking of DeVry.

George and Maria, I appreciate your candor for telling it like it is about DeVry. Very few do. Many try and get scared off by the paid DeVry shills, minions and croonies of company management, employees scared to death to hang on to their jobs. Some will write here, explain their experience and  get scared away. But not you.

Thank you for sharing your legitimate but negative experience with DeVry. George, you have proven that a bachelors degree from DeVry is worth a low paying job at Wal Greens and Maria you have proven that DeVry's definition of "furnished rooms" includes a bed and four chairs. More people need to hear this. Too many are hearing only the hype untill it is too late and they are stuck with a large student loan that their DeVry degree cannot find the quality job they need to pay for.

But alas, according to the paid DeVry shills, it is all the students fault.

Considering going to DeVry???

Caveat Emptor!!!!

My rebuttal

Actually not a rebuttal. Everyone I talk to says the same thing. Everytime I get a phone call frm one of these used car salemen, I want to puke. I just let the phone ring or sometimes, I switch it over to a fax machine and learn these get a good dose of the fax tone.

According to the one and only DeVry supporter, sometimes a ELECTRIAL ENGINEER making $70,000, more recently claiming to have a bachelors degree and working in IT with a starting pay of $80,000+, never mind that the median salary for someone with a bachelors degree is $60,000-$65,000,  (but would you really expect the truth) it is all your fault.

DeVry is accepted with open arms by all companies (ha,ha,ha) The education is first class (how about the open book tests and cheating with people having other people taking tests??) and allegations about professors not really knowing what they are doing?

When DeVry called me, one of the times they called me, to test them I told them I wasn't sure if I qualified for a student loan. The AA (Admission Advisor) was pressuring me to enroll and pay the application fee. So she tells me that she can transfer me over to the student aid department right away. She said and I quote:

"How do you know if you will qualify or not? Let's take the next step,   complate an application so I can transfer you over to a financial advisor."

I say "Great! Transfer me over now so I talk to them and see what I qualify for."

She responds, "To do that I will need you to pay the application fee. Which credit card do you want to use, MC, VISA or AMEX??"

"Can't I just speak to a financial advisor first?"

"No. We need the application fee first. Let's get it done and get you started right away okay?"

"I'm not sure if I want to go to your school, I'm looking at other schols right now."

"Why would you want to look at other schools? Which ones are you looking at? Did you remember what I said in the beginning of this call that up to 97% of DeVry grads find work in their chosen fields within 6 months? How serious are you about this? Maybe this isn't for you." (Ah the famous or infamous takeaway. Make it sound like you can't get it.)

I still rejected paying the fee. She continued with...

"Imagine yourself 2.8 years from now. You have completed school at DeVry and have your bachelors degree. All of your friends and family came to your graduation, saw you on stage in a grand ceremony (wow - sounds like tha acedemy awards-lol) and watched you throw your cap in the air, Then a few days later you are with your career services advisor and you are told that three companies are interested in you. All you have to do is decide which one is the best one for you. Nice problem to have isn't it." (Dream building with a tiedown thrown in and of course total bull!)

My reponse at that point was CLICK! Goodbye and good riddance.

DeVry may or may not offer you knowledge but it is the successful application of that knowledge that is in question.

The good news is that after June a lot of these schools will either have toned down their b.s. or be shut down. Now that is good news!

Hi, George!

This is Maria from (formerly) Loganville, GA.

I forgot to mention the INCREDIBLY high cost of a DeVry "education" in my previous response to a DeVry report, as well as the lousy excuse for "student housing". And the "advisors" (I use the word loosely) touted the "four-people-crammed-in-a-two-bedroom-overpriced-apartment" travesty as a "GOOD DEAL"!

It seems that to DeVry, "Fully Furnished Apartment" means "Four Beds and Four Chairs". Good Lord, didn't they expect the students to ever have guests or parents visiting?

There are so many people like you who have left the school in frustration, only to face an obscenely huge debt.

I personally think others like you need to find some venue to find each other, and get a lawyer to file a class action lawsuit against DeVry.

I'd certainly be willing to testify against them, for what it's worth.

The personnel in "Student Central" aren't qualified to wash dishes in a diner.
