I took out comprehensive cover costing me 200. Two months later my car died on me. I cancelled my policy as I am unsure whether or not I can afford to put it back on the road or whether I will have to buy a new one. For two months cover they charged me 140. Apparently this is quite legal as it is in the small print of their terms and conditions.

I called back around 20 minutes later to ask whether I could have a months grace so that I could consider my cars options and tie some of the 140 on a new policy with them. (This is also in the policy) I was informed that if I had requested this during my first call this would have been possible, but my policy was now already cancelled and there was no leeway.

I would have been happy to return to them as a customer but now I urge anyone thinking of using this company to double check the terms and conditions and unless there are compelling reasons to use Dial Direct (I can't think of any!) to go elsewhere.
