My husband and I came upon Diamond Acres web site while searching for a French Bulldog puppy, after our six year old dog died suddenly of a stoke. We are usually very savvy consumers and watch for scams but we were taken in by Evonne Denny and Diamond Acres Kennels.

We found a particular puppy we really liked on her website. The picture was very cute as is her whole website (she takes you in with her homey "christian" website). We called and talked to her a few times about the puppy and her operation. She told us the puppy was coming from Europe and it would be there in a few days. She never said anything about the puppy coming from "Eastern" Europe. We assumed the puppy was coming from France or England. She told us she needed a $500. deposit to hold the dog, which we wired to her.

The day she received the wire we tried contacting her to make arrangements to pick-up the puppy (we live 5 hours away). She didn't respond until evening. In her e-mail she told us the whole batch of puppies had diarrhea and that they wouldn't be coming to the the US for at least a week. She assured us it wasn't parvo but she didn't know what it was.

When we received this e-mail from her we immediately saw what she was about. We called her and asked her where the dogs were coming from and she said the Ukraine. At this point we knew something was wrong. I said why didn't she disclose that the puppies were coming from Russia and Russian puppy breeders had a terrible reputation. She said they weren't coming from Russia, puppies from Russia were not good but puppies from the Ukraine were high class and that anyone would tell me that. Not True!

We told her that telling us a puppy is from Europe and not disclosing it's from Russia/Ukraine is like telling us a puppy is from America and not telling us it's from Mexico. The purhaser deserves the whole truth -- full disclosure.

However, the number one thing that concerned us was that the puppy was sick and sitting in the Ukraine with no diagnosis (along with the whole batch of sick puppies). All we had was Evonne's reasurance that it was just puppy diarrhea. We had just had our six year old dog die of a stroke and have a 11 year old dachshund and the last thing we wanted was a sick dog that could possibly make our dachshund sick. We told her we didn't want the dog and wanted our money back (which she had just received). We told her she had been dishonest by not giving full disclosure and she couldn't guarantee we would receive the puppy we had given her the deposit on.

She told us she would not refund our money. It was a non-refundable deposit and we were just trying to get out of the deal. She was wrong. We were heartbroken. We had already purchased several items to welcome the puppy and had made arrangements to pick-up the puppy, including hotel reservations.

We feel strongly that Evonne Denney misled us intentionally because she knew if she had been forthright we would never have purchased a puppy from her. She only held our money for a matter of hours and could have easily given it back. She told us we would never get our money back.

We've learned a lot from this incident and hope that others read this story and other stories about Evonne Denney and Diamond Acres Kennels so they are not ripped-off too. We learned that you must go to very reputable breeder who is backed by a larger organization and has solid references; you will pay more but you will be dealing with a professional person with integrity.

I understand from other stories we've read that there may be a lawsuit filed against Evonne Denney. If so, we would be interested in possibly joining the lawsuit.

Here is my response about this situation,,,,,

For one,,,they did not~ just~ send the deposit,,I did have the deposit for over a week! Secondly, I NEVER~~ mis-informed them!!! You can personally~ look at my web site,,& see that on the Very front page of our web site, We DO~ state that We have been breeders for over 14 years, & we Breed & We import in order to Better the breed!!! We are NOT~ like other people that are out to make a Buck~!! This breed has a hard enough time with all~ of the line breeding,,& we are simply trying to bring in New Better~ CHAMPION~ lines into the States!!! And No We do NOT~ purchase puppies from Russia,,all of our puppies we import comes from Ukraine, from a VERY~ Close freind of mine!!! It's NOT~ just some stranger off of the street,,it is a FRIEND~ & Reputable SHOW/BREEDER!!! We get ONLY~ the VERY~ BEST from Her!!! And I'm Sorry if these people got Upset that the HEALTH~ of our Puppies Come FIRST~ & formost!!!!! We will NOT~ Sale a Puppy with Diarea or anything else for this matter!!! Puppies are NOT~ any different than Children,,they DO~ get puppy Symtoms that we have NO~ Control over!!! But ALL~ of our puppies come with a 1 Year Health Guarantee & You also have 48 hours to get your puppy into the Vet to prove~ your puppy is in perfect health,,,it is simply for your~ Peice of mind!! So I am SORRY~ if these people were ONLY~ thinking of Themselves ONLY~ & NOT~ the health of the puppy!! I refuse~ to send a puppy,,,if it is NOT~ feeling well!!! We ARE~ Reputable breeders,,& DO~ have a reputation to hold!! When you have been breeders for as long as We have,,You are ALWAYS~ going to have those Few complainers b/c something was'nt PERFECT~ in their Eyes!! Well,,,We are NOT~ God!! We are~ REAL~ PEOPLE~ & Life is NOT~ always perfect,,,but We try the Very~ best that We can!!! But if You go to our Web site,,you will also see a Disclaimer on the very front page of our Web site that Our Attorney also helped us build. And on our Puppy page, We DO~ state if the puppy is an import or not,,,We certainly do NOT~ have anything to hide,,,We are VERY~ Proud of our imports!!!! So this was a lie when they said they were Not informed,,,b/c as you will see on our web site,, we always~~ inform our Customers on our ENTIRE~ Web site if a puppy is an import. And of course on every page, it also states that Deposits are Non-Refundable!! Especially with our imports, I do have to send the deposit to my freind to reserve the puppy. So this is another reason why the deposit could not be returned to her, she backed out on a sale,,when all~ she would have had to do,,was wait One week for the puppy to be well again!!!
Anyhow,,,if in question PLEASE~ just email Us with any questions,,as we NEVER~ have any reason To scam or do people wrong!!! We are reputable breeders, that have a Goal of Selling ONLY~~ HEALTHY~ Puppies to our Clients!!!!
THANK YOU For Listening to OUR~ Side of the Storey!!!
Be Blessed, Diamond Acres Kennel

If you really want a Frenchie and don't care about having a puppy try this website

#5Consumer Suggestion

If you really want a French Bulldog, try the French Bulldog Rescue website. They have 2 frenchies in Texas that really look quite adorable.

I will put in the link - if for some reason it is deleted then just google French Bulldog Rescue.

(((redacted)))

I must admit, I was tempted, but my husband thinks that one Frenchie is enough for our household.

Good luck on your search,

Mary

Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act

We will be suing under the above act. You must notify her in writing and give her 60 days to respond. The law allows you to collect treble damages and attorney fees. We did purchase a dog from Evonne and over 15 months later we are still waiting for the registration papers.

Keep searching on the internet, my information is posted on the Chicago French Bulldog Club message board. If you are interested I have an attorney in the area that will be handling our suit.

Best of luck.
