Several years ago I visited Maui with friends. During my stay, I was pressured to purchase a timeshare from Diamond Resorts after they repeatedly told me how good a deal it was. And how easy it was to use my points on travel and resort reservations throughout the World.

Nothing could be further from the truth! I tried on numerous occasions to book discounted packages, with no luck. Then I tried using my points for their full priced offers, without luck. And as a last resort, I searched for any and all offers systemwide, on the dates I had available. Shockingly, nothing of interest came up... usually things like Sedona in the Summer, or equally unappealing destinations.

If that wasn't bad enough, then I received a special assessment for thousands! Which I have yet paid, as I don't have the money. And yet, I am still locked into the monthly payments, with $12,000 or so still owing on this worthless wonder.  Plus thousands more owed on yearly fee's, and special assessments.

So word to the wise, avoid timeshares at all costs! And if anyone knows away to get out from under an Hawaiian timeshare, please let me know.

MARRIOT TIMESHARES HIDDEN COSTS..

I read your report and agree with you completely...Most of these timeshares are a ripoff...The one week you buy cost you more in yearly fees and taxes than staying at a good hotel..
They are impossible to rent for the times you want...
It is impossible to get to the places you need- always booked...
So many hidden costs...
Marriot makes a fortune on selling one week x 52--with outrageous fees...
buyer beware...90% of these timeshares are a seller's dream and a buyer's nightmare...
I pursued Marriott for almost 7 months before i got a partial refund and they bought my place back..
