This company did me VERY WRONG! First of ALL you dont get paid for a whole month and when you do get paid, you have to pay for your own tools, the next paycheck also goes on tools, I spent all together more than $1500, just on tools. AND if you dont have tools you dont get a vehicle, SO you dont get to go out and do your jobs to make money. THEN they tried to hold half of my second check for reasons i dont know. I had to keep requesting and calling Human Resources to get the other half of my check, it took two whole weeks. My phone had got turned off and In this line of work you NEED a cell phone!!! It is VERY important! On top of that they SUSPENDED me for 3 days for that, and it was their fault. They told me I shouldve went to the pay phone to close out the job(we are technicians we have to close out every job after completion, at the customers home, and the customers must talk to the "close-out job India people" or we DO NOT get paid) but how could the customer talk to them if I was to go to a payphone! the customer definitely made it clear to me that they werent following me to the nearest payphone! and they had no type of phone what-so-ever!! So that happened and everything but what really made me mad about working for them is three months after that I was coming home one night from a job i just completed, It was late-about 10:30pm-(yes we do work that late, sometimes later), I was tired, and Yes I was speeding a little trying to get home, i got pulled over by the cops, they took me to jail because of a warrant-speeding ticket I hadnt finished paying off! Well yea I know I was wrong, but the way Direch Tech handled it let me know for sure that they dont give a d**n about their employees!!! I was sitting in jail for 3 days! I couldnt get in touch with anyone, not even my fiance' (and it was her birthday!!!) And when I finally got out, my voicemail was full of messages saying that i STOLE THEIR VAN!!!! THey left me like 15 messages using innapropriate language-CUSSING me out saying(exact words) "Tony! you need to bring my f***ing van back, we know you stole our van! I just called the god d**n police and you are going to jail, bring us back the d**n van!!" In NOT one of those messages did i get a voicemail asking am I alright and is everything ok. And the crazy thing about it is I know these managers personally and they know i would NEVER steal anything ESPECIALLY a van!!! They were saying other things and I do still have the voice messages on my phone! I could have been dead, but all they cared about was a van, even my fiance tried to tell them she hadnt heard from me and was worried ( she was an employee there also), but they still jumped to the conclusion of me taking off with a big white van with a HUGE BLUE SIGN saying:DIRECTV!!!!!! I was appalled and very hurt! Then when I finally got out and the tickets was DISMISSED, I went up to DirechTech to talk to Manager and he stated that they werent going to give me the van back , but they werent going to fire me! He also said he could put me in the warehouse because he know how times are! THAT NEVER HAPPENED, HE stated that I could have a job when I get my own vehicle. I kept trying to call them to see if they were ever going to give me that job in the warehouse or were they just going to go ahead and fire me, but they still said to wait off for the ware house job and no they werent going to fire me. After a while I tried to tell him them they could go on and fire me since i needed some kind of income, i had a place to live where i needed my rent to be paid and i needed some kind of income, and I figured while i'm looking for another job i could have my unemployment benefits. BUt he said he was not going to fire me and i ended up losing my place, and ALL my furniture!!!! I paid off everything when the van got towed, i paid all that off. I ended up LOSING EVERYTHING- even my fiance!! I'm still looking for another job and I am STILL calling up there for the bonus check they promised me all the way in NOVEMBER 7th 2008!!! Im just mad and hurt because DirechTech know what kind of times we are in and they know it was going to take a while for me to find a knew job, It was SO wrong !!!!!!!!!!

#7UPDATE EX-employee responds

You are not the only one, there are thousands of people like you who has suffered their abuse and bad business practices and that's including me. I have 4 years of experience installing directv, don't consider my work as mediocre and I will not continue doing this. things were okay 2 years ago, since then I been defrauded with probably $ 14,000.00 in the lapse of 2 years, with people who went bankrupt, not able to pay and so on. this was a good job a couple of years ago but since the introduction of HD and subsequent more stricter standards this is not an activity a subcontractor should do. technically speaking we are treated as employees and not independent contractors because of the control factor. it's not only affecting customers and people working as so called "subcontractors", it is affecting the state and federal government because we should be employees and they and us should be paying the respective taxes.

contract labor laws

#7Consumer Comment

im not sure if you were contract labor or not. but here in oklahoma the contract labor was changed back in 1985. their was a list of requirement to be considered contract labor. some employers at the time were taking advantage of the workers. by not taking out the federal and state tax withholding from their paycheck. leaving the unaware worker to do this. even a couple of years ago some employer tried taking advantage of the workmens comp law. by getting the worker to go fill out a workmens non comp card. so the employer wouldnt have to pay for workermen comp insurance . in contract labor their is a list of requirements that the worker as to answer yes to all. even with the workmen non comp card . the worker as to to set his own schedule, supply own tools and vehicle. im not sure . but if the company you worked for was contracted by directv they may even be liable. i would find out what the texas labor laws are and even go ask a lawyer for their opinion. buying more than 1500.00 in tools sounds like you were considered contract. on the other hand they gave you a vehicle. if they condsidered you contract labor when in fact you were really a full time employee and they werent withholding fed and state taxes from your paycheck . i would really look into it . know the laws and know your rights........
