Like the Iraq veteran, I was slammed by this Direct phone company. I never recall taking a call from them, and anytime I get long-distance companies trying to telemarket me, I simply hang up on them. For three months, I had a $63.96 bill to my charge card with nothing other than "Direct Billing [an invalid phone number] NV" to go by.

This month, I finally caught up with them, when the bill read "Direct Billing 702-9327170 NV." The representative who answered the phone said they were a third-party billing company. I agreed to accept the refund but now am reconsidering because I don't want a refund to bar me from collecting damages under North Carolina's anti-slam law.

Anyone with similar complaints can contact me, because I'd love to get these people involved in a class-action!

Direct now known as Gelway Communications

Was advised by a representative that Direct Long Distance has since changed its name to Gelway Communications, but "their computers are down" and they cannot remove my number from their account. Contacting state AG office tomorrow, because this may violate federal wire fraud, credit card fraud and slamming statutes.
