On one of our rental properties, direct tv installed two satellite dishes. Let me point out; this is a two year old roof, of which we spent thousands of dollar to have done. Now, this new roof has holes all over it from them attaching the dishes and cable.

We "did not" give this company "permission" to drill anything into our property's roof. In addition, their policy and terms indicates; they are not resposible if damage occurs due to weather or other circumstance to our roof.

First of all, they should not be damaging anyone's property without their consent. Secondly, when we call they won't talk to us, because we don't have an account with them the tenants do.

After calling several times, they still refused to transfer my call to a supervisor. They are rude and uncooperative.

I am filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, Better Business Bureau, and the Attorney General in the state of KY (since this is the address where tenants are paying their bills)

I would recommend that everyone do the same. I have done this in the past, with great results.

It's easy, you can file all of these compaints online.
FTC /www. ftc.gov (Consumer Protection)
BBB / www.bbb.org (enter zip code...top left tick For Consumers) Complaint
You have to Sent to Attorney General in the STATE the "company" is located.
Just google and you'll find who that is with address.

Good Luck Everyone!

i am sure your tenant is telling you that they told the tech not to install it on the roof because they don't want to get evicted or have to pay you for the damages. the installer is not going to risk his job or risk the customer calling in to cancel the same day by putting the dish where it isn't allowed to go. if the customer requests the dish be put on a pole in the yard instead of on the roof, they have to pay the tech for a custom installation as that is not included in the free standard installation. the tenant must have verbal or written permission from the landlord to install the dish on the building and i would bet money that they told the tech it was ok because they did not want to pay anything for that installation. your tenants are the ones to go after, not directv.

DTV could care less about their own policy

The contractors had no problem putting the thing on my roof without signed landlord consent. ( I am *rent to own* and thus and not the owner of this house by law). I told them I was rent to own and the lady said *close enough*.

As far as reading the policy, the policies change and it isn't like they announce it or even quietly post it in an obvious place. I'm a little in awe of people who dismiss obviously shady behavior by pointing to a policy. ESPECIALLY when the company in question is well known for completely and totally ignoring their OWN policy and practices (which I am sure Ashley is more than aware of since she has read many of the complaints I am sure). Please refer to google's search on "DirecTV bait and switch" for further proof.

It seems like it would be more helpful to advocate for clearer more accessible policies (not everyone uses the interwebs after all) than to say sucks to be you shoulda read the fine print. Also, the fact that DTV so oft violates said policies makes the whole thing a moot point. When they become well known for adhering to the policies, I will make a claim that a person should have read them more clearly.

something fishy is going on..... When I got sick of Charter Communications billing practices, I switched to Direct Tv. I went through Verizon and got a bundle deal. I rent and live in an old Victorian house. When I first phoned to do the order, the DTV rep told me I needed permission from my landlord. I had to print out a paper on their website and have him sign it. Without that, they would absolutely REFUSE to do any work.

There is no way the DTV guy would agree to not place the dish on the roof. My DTV guy came back down six or seven times and he puts the ladder up right where the dish is going to go so seeing where it'll end up is easy. There was GREAT communication with my guy. He was real cool and very thorough.

Either your tenants are lying to you or your an ex-employee seeking revenge.

And no..I do not nor have I ever worked for DTV. I work at a financial institution at a call center discussing od fees...... and what a great job it is (note: sarcasm)

As an exinstaller for Directv, when doing an install on rental property an agreement signed by the owner was required. If the tenant did not have a signed agreement I could not do the install. Directv would supply the document and installers should have copies with them. If a signature could not be had at the time the customer would have to reschedule. Bottom line-No signature No install.

I don't work for directv. I'm just a consumer who frequents this site, most of the complaints against directv would be solved if people would read all the paperwork they are given before they sign it.

i would say 90% of the complaints on here about directv are the customer's own fault for not reading the contract they signed.

I am aware that they do rip people off, but these rip offs could be avoided by the comsumer simply becoming an informed consumer.

Feel free to complain about directv, and I will still post when I see a complaint that is not valid.

If the tenants of your property never gave directv permission to attach anything to your property, then you need to get a lawyer and have directv produce documents proving they had authorization. My money is on your tenants lying to you about it so that you don't sue them.

Either way, your tenants called up directv and had them install it in the house, without getting authorization from you. The tenants are liable for the destruction to the house because they had to lie and say they were the owners to get the service installed. Someone HAD to sign authorizing it. You need to find out who did.

when the installer shows up. what they are to do is a walk thru with the customer. are you in a neighborhood association are you renting the home. where the equipment is going inside and where to locate the dish on the house. but what is sad is some installers arent paid enough. so in order to make a living they have to get in and out fast. they try to do 2 or 3 installs a day. but now a days their isnt that many installs. to get the equipment free a price is paid. the customer signs a 2 year agreement, the manufacturer as to find cheap equipment and labor. in the end everyone involved as certain expectations. . but their is no such thing as a free lunch. someone had to the price. you should include on your rental agreements dish install damage. their are several different mounting technics availible. under the eave mounts , chimney mounts, pole mounts, non penetrating roof mounts. but these are extra cost to the customer and not part of a standard install. but what i would do is find an experienced dealer and have them come out to place on your rental property the kind of mount that will satisfy you. making sure to place it where it will work for dish network and directv . but in the long run you wont have to worry about having a dish installed were you dont want it and plus the possible renter will be able to have a dish installed. the under the eave mounts run betweeen 50 to 100 dollars and the installers labor. i had a cutomer who had a c band dish and lived in a neighborhood association. he had the dish a few years. they decided to take him to court to remove the dish it was an eye sore. he lost the case and had to remove the c band dish. they lost because federal law states that any dish smaller than 3 feet . the association couldnt prevent him from installing. so he went and got a 3 foot directv dish. then he had it painted pink and then installed. his cband dish was black and 7 1/2 foot across and it was behind a couple of evergreens . that you could hardly see the dish. but when the customer got done he had a pink 3 foot dish that the whole world could see. their was also a ruling about people living in apartments. that they to had a right to have a dish. but what sucks about that is .the dish as to have a good view of the southern sky. so in an apartment installer as to use a portable mount when installing.

Why aren't you going after your tenants?

After all they are the ones that lied to directv and said they had permission or that they were the owners of the property.

Directv had no way of knowing that the tenants are not the owners.

You should be suing your tenants.
