Direct TV -- Box Rental I paid for the converter boxes, and they charge me a monthly fee...WHY? Concord California
While I am very satisfied with my Directv service, I am appalled that I paid for each of the converter boxes I have, and still each month I pay a rental fee. Why am I paying a rental fee if I own the boxes? If I cancelled my service Directv would not ask that the boxes be returned because I purchased them, then should they pay me a rental fee?
I would like to see a class action suit to accomplish two things: (1) eliminate the monthly rental charges and (2) refund rental fees.

I ran into the same situation. Purchased my own 120.00 dollar receiver, paid 5 dollars a month to "rent" the equipment, but had to return it to them when the service was terminated.
Apparently when you purchased the equipment I am told there was a sticker that stated the equipment is basically "loaned" and property of Direct TV. Regardless if you have the contract that states otherwise. When you purchased the receivers, they are automatically added to your account as a Direct TV receiver.
I am now looking for that class action lawsuit, I believe there is one in the works for this same issue. I am now out my $120.00.
