I have been a Direct TV customer since 2002. Late last year an outbound telemarketer called me to offer a deal on a package for all the movie channels. I had just had hip surgery and was home-bound so thought the variety in channels would be nice. To my surprise when I got my first bill I had been charged $74.99 for something called and NFL Sunday Ticket.

Now I'm a single mom with two small kids. I have NEVER ordered any NFL ANYTHING and I didn't call them, they called me. I don't have $300 (it's 4 payments for $74.99!!!) to pay for FOOTBALL. My television has never even had football played on it. I don't watch it and have no need for it whatsover. So when I called right after getting my first bill I was told by a customer service representative that it was a billing error and I was given credit on my bill.

The representative mentioned this NFL package and I IMMEDIATELY said no, there is no way I would have ever ordered it. He understood and took care of it. Then I got my next bill and it was on there again. I called to ask for the credit again but was told that the season had already started and it was TOO LATE to cancel. TOO LATE TO CANCEL???

I called when I got the first bill to notify them. They simply won't understand that I didn't call them, they called me....I was told the promotion was for movie channels and was being offered to long term customers as a "thank you". Their sales reps have flatley told me that they are not willing to help me and they don't care about my problem.

It's absolutely INSANE the type of logic they have applied to this issue. They are willing to lose a long time customer for a few dollars. Why on Earth would anyone want to be a customer of a company that cares SO LITTLE? And based on all the other complaints I've seen about them, it appears that they really don't have the customer in mind...just the all mighty buck. In this economy you'd think they'd want to try to keep customers instead of driving them away for the "principle" of being able to say "it's not their policy"....wow. Pathetic.

the deal you got offered is an offer of the nfl sunday ticket and you get the premier package free for 4 months. i don't understand why you are upset with this. who cares if you don't watch football. you get the premier package which is regularly $104.99 for $74.99. alot of non-football fans sign up for that offer to get premier free. you are making it sound like you had an additional charge for $74.99 and that you can't afford to pay $300 like that is an additional charge. it's a great bargain. also, those outbound callers are not employed by directv...they are a 3rd party telemarketers. lastly, the agent who told you it was too late to cancel the sunday ticket was correct as the season had already started. once the season starts, you can't cancel it, but you can stop the auto renew of it next year, because it will auto renew unless you call directv to cancel the auto renew before the new season. you should be happy with your new channels and enjoy them for the next 4 months while you are saving $30 off the premier package.
