About 3 months ago a salesman told me that for 30.00 a month I could have a satellite at my apartment and it would only cost $50.00 to have it installed. So like most fools, I signed a contract(after I read it) stating that I would continue service with then for one year. I even got insurance on the stupid thing for like $5.00 a month. Then, They didn't show when they said they would to install it. I called.

They didn't show up again. Finally in the rain one day, they came over and got it hooked up. Well, it wasn't too long before it was installed. I paid the man my $50.00.

It was my understanding that for total installation it was $50.00, but the wire was not buried in the ground. It must have been like 30 feet or more of cable. He said that normally he does bury it but his truck was broken and all of his tools were in it. I told him to come back and do it later and he said he wouldn't. So I relunctly buried the wire. A task that sounds way easier than it is.

Within one hour. The thing wasn't working so I called him back. He came back and it was working when he left but it stopped there shortly after. Well, I didn't have time to mess with it that day. So it was about a week before I called again. He came back and said that a service call was $150.00. I was like what the crap. It never stayed working in the first place. SO he said he would fix it just this once for free. So he did.

It rained the next day and the hill that he buried in it sunk. So the thing moved and lost signal again. i remembered that $150.00 so I didn't call back. I have since had my uncle, stepdad, husband, neighbor and everyone else work on the stupid thing, but it still doesn't work. WHAT A RIP OFF!!! You can't get any kind of signal on it whatsoever. And they will charge me $150.00 just to have it fixed.

When it never really worked in the first place. I have paid the bill up until last month and then I just said to Heck with it. Why do I have to pay for something that has never worked? BUYER BEWARE THE SATELLITE SCAM!!!
Email me if you know anyway to get around this.
Thanks,
Laurie Spoon

Ms. Spoon,

I used to work for DirecTV, but am now in no way affiliated with the company. My reason for leaving customer service with the company was to join the military, not because I felt dissatisfied with the product being sold or that customers were being cheated.

I read your complaint and I must tell you, there are many other complaints like yours filed every day. When I left DirecTV a year ago, they were doing everything they could to make sure the dealers of their satellite system made their appointments and perforemd proper installation of the system.

Most dealers are independent of the actual satellite company. If you call DirecTV's toll-free number, you can file a complaint and have someone out to fix your satellite, as well as receive credit for the time without service. Also, with the insurance you purchased, unless that has been changed in the past year, you should be receiving FREE satellite realignments as often as necessary.

The only problem with any satellite tv company is that the signal may break down or be lost completely when it rains. This is due to the heavy cloud coverage interfering with the reception of satellite signals in space. Unfortunately, little can be done about this. The fact that you lose some reception while it rains was the only drawback I noticed to having the DirecTV service.

If you live somewhere in which it rains constantly, going with digital cable may be a better option. For anyone else that is willing to pay monthly fees for entertainment, DirecTV, in my humble opinion, is one of the better services offered.

If anyone ever has technical problems with their equipment, or with the installation of their DirecTV systems, customer service is provided twenty four hours a day, seven days a week (I should know, I had to work those hours/days!!).

I hope this helps a little.

Sincerely,
