I signed up with Direct TV in 2004. I had them until 2009. At different times, I signed up for autopay to have my payment directly taken out of my checking account. I cancelled it because there were problems with them taking out the payment before the due date. Before I changed service, I called to find out if they had any deals to retain customers or were they only for new customers. They told me they were for new customers only. I changed to DISH network. I called Direct TV to inform them that I was terminating service with them on 7/11/09 and going to a competitor. I was told that I would receive a final bill in approximately a week. On 7/22/09 a payment of 22.12 was withdrawn from my account without my authorization. When I called Direct TV, I was told that in my original contract, I authorized any balances to be directly withdrawn from my account. I told them that I haven't even received a final bill and I have never authorized any such withdrawals. They told me that a final bill was sent on 7/19 and they could take the money because I authorized it when I set up service. I was told that they could take out however amounts would withdraw from my checking account until my account was satisfied. I told them I was never given the opportunity to see a final bill or to pay it yet. I only disconnect service on 7/11/09. I told them that the last communication with Direct TV, I was told I would get final bill and have an opportunity to pay. As a result of this withdrawal, I have at least 100.00 in overdraft or bad check fees. I have to dispute the charges with my bank and I have to change my account numbers in order for these withdrawals to stop.
