In April 2006 while checking my bank statement again, I realized that Directv had debited my bank account $150 without my authorization and at a time when my Directv bill was due.

I called customer service to inquire about the bill. I gave them my Directv account number and when they brought up the account, they stated that they had not debited my account at that time and at that amount. I explained to them that I was looking at that statement and that they had.

After getting the run around for several days, it was finally discovered that Directv had allowed someone (unknown to me or my wife), to initiate cable service using my wifes stolen debit card number. In fact, Directv had been separately automatically billing my wifes debit card for cable every month since November 2004. It was also discovered that the fraudulant service was not in my wifes name, yet her debit card was allowed to be used to pay the bill every month.

The police and the fraud department at my bank investigated and determined that I had been a victim of ID theft. Directv was contacted by the bank investigators and myself and claims no responsibility and has continuously refused to give a refund, the name of the thief, or the address to where the service was being provided. I have done everything the so-called Directv invetstigators asked, including faxing my bank statements to them. Two dozen phone calls and several months later, they have still refused to contact me.

If You Filed A Police Report Did You Name DirecTV As The Thief?

If not, do so now. Once they have been charged with stealing, they will have to give the name and address of the other party to the District Attorney's office. Make sure you file complaints with your Attorney General's office as well. Good luck.

The reason I didnt catch the error was because every month, I would confuse the bogus DirecTV payment for my own. Initially I thought it could be a relative or friend who may have stolen the number, but DirecTV would not give up the name or number for as they call it," legal reasons".
The only way I can get the name and address is if I sue them.

I blame myself for not catching it sooner, but that is no excuse for someone being able to steal from me.

DirecTV should have in place what every other company has in place, which is to match the card holder and card number to the address. The fact is that my own cable has been cut off from time to time due to nonpayment, yet I was paying this jerks cable bill without fail every month. Where's the justice in that.

Remember, I am the victim. I am the one out of over $2000.00!

How could someone be using your debit card without your knowledge for so long? Don't you ever check your bank statements or go online? Plus, why not go after the guy that 'stole' your card? If they have DirectTV, than they have an address.

Something just doesn't sound right here. There's got to be more to this story, such as a friend or relative that was using your card.

Plus, if someone 'stole your identity', why wouldn't they have bought a bunch of stuff instead of getting DirectTV, knowing they would be busted in no time? In my opinion, DirectTV is smells something fishy too, and that's why they aren't communicating with you.

What's the rest of the story?
