Dropped Directv because of excessive pricing on reruns.  Cancelled twice, because 1st time on their email mysteriously didn't get there, but no failure to deliver on my end. Called in after paying bill with different credit card which was not on my account with Directv.

Was told to send back main HD receiver, which we had purchased ourselves when we bought the new HDTV, which was installed by us,along with the new receiver.  Directv only activated it. Didn't want the smaller newer upgrade box for the other new HD TV.

Paid bill, had $39.00 credit.  Still no money since end of March.  They want to charge me $125.00 for the receiver, which I paid $199.00 for in 2005.  This is a money making deal if you don't return " their equipment" they harass you with phone calls after you've always paid your bill.

They decided since I was not going to give them the equipment , they would bill me with the credit card I paid the bill with, which they had no authority to use, Discover credited my card because Directv could not validate the charge.

Now Directv has turned the charge over to a collection agency.  I informed them to contact the Federal Trade Commission which I reported them to.  How many people do they pull this on?

Double check teh fine print on the paperwork you recieved when you purchased the reciever. All the recievers sold at places like best buy are still leased. You dont ever own a reciever from direct TV. If you look at the boxes or your contract you will see that you are not buying the equipment and that you do not own it. Look over this site more, and you will see that the 200$ you paid has been credited, most people seem to get hit with 300-400$ for not returning the eqiupment. Additionally, when you sign up for their service you agreed to allow them to charge any fees to teh credit card they have on file. Including any cancellation fees.

They have a pretty good racket going, they trust that no one will bother reading the paperwork.
