Complaint Review: DirecTV

I will start off by saying that based on what I've been reading on this site. MANY people have been ripped off by this company! That said, I'll tell you my story:

In May 2006, after growing tired of cable prices going through the roof, I decided to give DirecTV a try. The fact they were giving me a trial period was enough for me to pull the trigger. After two days, I came to the conclusion that it was too inconvenient for me to have a regular box, a DVR box, AND an HD box, plus the HD picture was inferior to cable, so I decided to immediately cancel the service.

Upon cancelling, they sent me FedEx labels to send the boxes back, which I immediately did. I assumed at that point, the chapter was closed. I know a lot of you are asking why I'm writing this when all this happened a year ago, right? Well, here's why:

Today, I get a call from a collection agency ,saying I had a balance of $300! I said, you gotta be kidding me! I was told that I was being hit with an early termination fee and that I didnt return one of the boxes. I immediately called DirecTV to get an answer. When I got the representative on the phone, she told me she had to clarify my information with her supervisor, and put me on hold for literally 30 minutes! I called back immediately and the next lady apologized and someone was going to contact me within 10 minutes. I told them if I see anything on my credit report, that I would sue them for MAJOR damages. I'm in the finance business, and bad credit of any kind will greatly affect how I do business. Of course that call never came.

For a company as large as DirecTV, their customer service is incompetent at best, and downright fraudulant at worst. And did I mention that after all of this, they wanted to sell me a package? All this, and they STILL didnt resolve the issue. These people are crooks!
