Complaint Review: DIRECTV

DIRECTV Fraudulent Early Termination & More Early Termination Fee for uninstalled service; continued billing old address Nashua New Hampshire

Last year I moved from one city to another in New Hampshire, about 30 minutes apart. I scheduled Directv to move the service, although I informed them that I may not have an appropriate view. Service guy arrived, and sure enough, I don't have appropriate direction to pick up the signal from my condo. He mentioned that he doesn't get paid if installation is not possible. About a day later Directv phoned me to confirm that installation was not possible.

Yet, they sent me another monthly bill (which I paid, thinking it was for the last month at previous address). Then another bill. I phoned them, and they insisted that I should have explicitly cancelled service for old location. This, despite that they knew that my service was being MOVED. She reduced the bill to partial month, which I later grudgingly paid.

This was not the end of the story. I then received a bill for $125 as an early termination fee. Yet, no service had ever been installed in the new location. I ignored it, another bill next month added interest for a total of $125.65, and then received a letter from a collection agency for this amount. I sent the agency a letter explaining that this was a frivolous charge, and requesting, according to law, that they stop bothering me. Now I have received a letter from another collection agency for this amount, offering to settle for 50%.

Beware of Directv. I had been satisfied with their signal service, and wanted to use them again, once I move again. Not any more. This is pitiful customer service.

I know you said that Directv called you about a day after the original install, was it Directv or the installation company? (I suspect it was the installation company)

So the reason that you were getting monthly bills is that your service wasn't really canceled with the company providing it.

As far as the early cancellation fee, were you under a commitment for programming before your move??
==========
Larry, the girl identified herself as Directv, not the installation company.

I had a previous commitment for a year, when they sent a replacement receiver, but this had since been completed. Unit was replaced when they decided to send a new card. The old unit was always a little stiff when removing/inserting the card the rare time, and it finally died when I put the new card in.

I had no complaints about the service while I had it, (and it was still my preferred service if not for my condo balcony facing the wrong direction) but the exit procedure was botched.

Did you ever call and cancel your Directv service?
