Hello. My name is Iryna I just sent the same letter to BBB and will wait for the response from them.
On october 23rd, I called DirecTV to order service with them. I spoke with representative 2115661, who ensured me that if I get service with them right now, I can try it out for 7 days and cancel free of any charge. However, if I cancel it after 7 days, I will be charged about 25 dollars for each remaining month on my contract, which was 18 months, the full contract lenght, since I would be a new customer. I got the service connected on October 24th. My account number with them is 39203676. On October 29th, I received a bill from them, which was higher than they previously quoted me for their service. I called them right away and representative HBDVILORIA told me that he will either try to get me the price that I was told or that I can cancel the service because it was the last day I could do so free of charge. I told him that I just wanted to cancel it because if I am already being overcharged and treated unfairly from the get-go then I can only imagine what it will be like for the remaining eighteen months of my service. So he then transferred me to the cancellation department, the person I spoke with told me that they apparently extended my contract to two years without any notification and there was no such rule about a 7 courtesy days trial period. Needless to say, they informed me that I will be charged a cancellation fee anyways. At this point I cancelled the service and my credit card was charged 319.26. I filed a complaint with them which included all the reference numbers of the people I spoke with and those who gave me the information about the 7 days policy- particularly the person who signed me up for the service who apparently just wanted me in and lied to me about the 7 days rule. Or maybe there is such a rule? I am not sure but it is obviously a ploy to have unsuspecting consumers lured in to be overcharged, unsatisfied and ripped off. Hopefully, they have all the conversations recorded and this issue can be resolved. And looking at it from the legal point I have never signed a contract with them because they sent it to me after I already cancelled the service.
In addition to this complaint, I disputed the charge on my Bank of America credit card on November 5th. They filed a complaint to DirecTV but have not received an answer as of yet. Insted of answering, DirecTV placed another unauthorized, completely new charge in the same amount of 319.26 on my account. A representative from Bank of America informed me that it is illegal to do such as thing until the company has replied to the initial dispute regarding the previous charge in the same amount.
Also between October 23rd and today's date of November 27th, I called DirecTV a couple of times pretending to be a new customer and asked representatives about their policy regarding courtesy days and I always got different information- either 3 days, 7 days or no days at all. Obviously they don't have it in writing as a rule anywhere or their representatives aren't properly trained and give out wrong or incorrect information from the top of their heads. I believe whatever the case is- this gives them opportunity to fool innocent consumers into a trap and get away with it.
Also I went on the ripoffreport.com and read a lot of stories from consumers like me who got ripped off by the DirecTV service also in the same exact kind of situations. This is obviously a ongoing and common practice with this company and they pay no attention to customer concerns and disputes. Their number one priority is to get your money any way that they can.
Taking into account all the information, I ask you to please investigate this issue in hopes that there might be some possible resolution for myself and other customers out there like me. I don't mind to pay them the amount for the shipping charges that it will cost to send the equipment back to them, a total of 2 Fedex boxes, but I do not want to pay any costs that exceed that. I know that I probably should have written you after I received the answer from DirecTV but I wanted to avoid any additionl charges or fees to my credit card as well as to get this resolved as soon as possible.
I thank you very much in advance for your cooperation in this matter. Your assistance will be a big present for me especially during this holiday season. I am a very hard working individual and getting this 300 dollars back will be very substantial.
You can contact me with the results of this issue either via the above address or my phone number (((ROR REDACTED))) Sincerely,

Iryna
