Directv No picture in snow or rain; breach of contract; overcharged my debit card El Segundo California
When I first signed up with Directv I was promised as part of the special offer to get a free receiver with a 12 month commitment. I used my debit card to make the initial payment. Instead, they leased me a receiver and overcarged my debit card. They refused to refund the overcharge. My bank handled the dispute and the refund was issued.
I never received the premium channels as part of the incentive, supposed to be free the first three months. They said they didn't offer such incentives. I filed a report with the Better Business Bureau. The BBB couldn't do much because Directv kept saying contract.
I was out 2 weeks due to the snow. They don't come out when there is snow in the dish. They refused to refund for any period of loss of service. I was frequently without TV during winter. Every time it snowed, I had no picture. A good rainfall? I had no picture. A bird visited the dish -- no picture.
They continually refused to let me release the service, stating they had done nothing wrong. They dinged my credit report due to the bank dispute. When I did have a problem making a payment, I called to make arrangements to extend the due date. They refused. Literally, they cut me off 2 days before the day I said I could make payment. That's not how I want to get out of a contract.
To lure me back, they wanted to make all of these things right. The way I figure it, they didn't have to wait 8 months to make it right. They should have made it right in the first place. The early cancellation fee they made me pay was an insult, but for $62 to walk away in the long run saves me the aspirin.
