Complaint Review: DirecTv

DirecTv Screensaver comes on often and the people in tech support will not remve screensaver and is rude Internet, Internet

I pay for service to watch television.  Not to look at a screensaver.  It comes on anywhere between 5 minutes and 4 hours daily.  The company (DirecTv) will not remove the function.  We are forced to have satellite because we cannot get cable and those with cable are not forced to have a bouncing screensaver to pop up on their television.  The people at DirecTv seems like that the screensaver is not a problem.  They said all I have to do is change channels to get it to come off.  Actually, all I have to do is call the bank to stop payment.  If enough people stop their services with them due to the screensaver then maybe they will take it off.  They also said they sent out emails to everyone telling them about it.  Not everyone has internet.  I have internet but it is not unlimited.

Obviously I do not know how the website works...  The comment was not intended to be directed at you...  You did not call anyone lazy.  I wasn't intending to say YOUR suggestion was bogus (it didn't work for me personally; however I would never bash someone who was trying to help.)  The comment was directed at the assholes that were being flip about it and were making a big deal about it not being a big deal.  I did not call you out by name so apparently when you press that button it's not replying about the issue itself but the last person who posted?  That's kind of stupid design for a forum-type site.  I was not angry at you and your willingness to personally attack me is surprising seeing as you seem like a nice helpful person.

As a consumer and contracting technician of DirecTV, I have this to say about your statements. I have 4 HD DVR's, 1 HD and 4 standard receivers on my account. I have had my system for several years. A little over a year ago, DirecTV did a software download to the receivers and this screensaver was downloaded to the receivers. I did not like it either as it would come on after the TV had sit idle for a couple of hours or so. I went in to the above mentioned settings and turned of the power saving and have never had the problem since. My TV stays on night and day with no activity and my screensaver does not come on any more. I install everyday and do not have this issue with any of the consumers that are installed. It sounds to me as if you have bad equipment that needs to be replaced. I am the one who posted #10 only. It was only a solution to try and help you. Nothing I typed was negative toward you or anyone else. Nor have I opened my mouth. I have only typed a possible solution. Take it or leave it. If it doesn't solve it, you have another issue with your receiver(s).  I have posted about another issue on here about a DirecTV door to door con-artist and thief. You can see that post by typing in the word "Capitol Theatre" in the above search. Everyone needs to be aware of these crooks. They go from state to state and con and steal from consumers in their own homes.

This is crazy.. Re: Screensaver

If you said how "lazy" shame on you.  The screensaver is not wanted or needed "to prevent burn in" unless you are an idiot and leave it on a station THAT HAS ONLY ONE STILL IMAGE for several hours.  Turning the power saver OFF does little...  ALL that does is not turn the DVR on Standby and keeps it active.  This is NOT a difficult fix, They simply DO NOT WANT to fix it.  If I want to leave my effin TV on ALL DAY LONG WITH SOUND AND VIDEO WITHOUT PUSHING A BUTTON ON ANYTHING then I SHOULD HAVE THE CHOICE.  You should not be able to tell me I can't.  Put a menu option in to turn the flippin screensaver OFF ON THE SAME MENU ITEM the Power Saver on and off...  OS is either flash or linux more than likely and I know !@#$ well it can be changed.  I want my TV on ALL day with SOUND and VIDEO.  IT doesn't MATTER WHY I want it that way.  I AM THE CONSUMER.  It needs to be changed.  IF you don't personally like this then DON'T REPLY!!  Either post a SOLUTION THAT IS TESTED AND WORKS or keep your mouth shut.

Possible solution to the Screen Saver issue

#14REBUTTAL Owner of company

Sun, October 07, 2012

As a long time contracting technician of DirecTV, I will offer a possible solution. I do not know if you have solved this issue yet or not, but will put this on here anyway for anyone else who might have the screen saver issue.

I am assuming only that this is an HD receiver or HD DVR:

Hit the MENU button on your remote.

Go down to SETTINGS AND HELP and select it.

Curser should highlight the settings ICON. Select it.

A list of options should appear. Arrow down to POWER SAVING and select it.

You should see an option to the right that says Power Saving and should show ON.

Select the ON and the OFF should appear. Selct the OFF option.

This SHOULD solve the screen saver problem you are having. If it doesn't, then there is something else going on in your situation that I haven't seen. Then DirecTV technical department should be able to help with this problem.

Bull Vs DirecTv

So, This is how it goes.  After fighting with these no good billy goat morons for 9 months and still have gotten nowhere with these idiots.  I have decided that tomorrow morning I will call the courthouse to see what is needed to take action against DirecTv.  The screensaver comes on every hour on the hour and it does not bother the idiots that work there.  Yes, idiots, self-centered morons that don't care about anything except for a stupid paycheck.  Take the paycheck and do whatever you wish.  I am not renewing my contract with this company.  I am soooo over it.

Hello there i am an employee and i do understand where you are coming from but the cause is to protect your television so it will not get a screen burn ; and also if you have any hd boxes tune them to a non hd channel before turning them off to avoid to be announced stuck on some channels. Also if the problem states we are working on the issue and not to call please don't call we seriously are working on the issue i understand that there are some customers that think we don't care but some of us actualy care for customers

I am the one that filed this complaint.  You all think it is that easy.  The screensaver comes on often even when you are watching tv.  I am not lazy as you think.  I am disabled and my mom has cancer.  People should consider the source before calling someone lazy.  Paying 65 dollars or more a month to have a screensaver to come on whenever it feels like it.  Enjoy your stupid screensaver and the rude woorkers.  As soon as cable comes my way.  I am going going gone.

Anytime I put my DVR on pause the screen saver appears.  NO I do not work for Directv - have had it for over 8 years and the only problem was during a heavy snow last year.  Just click any key on your remote and the picture will come back (just what I do - maybe different for you)

Good luck to you.

That makes a lot more sense. I mean I can't see the point of a screen saver when there is nothing to save (because nothing is going to get burned in with a moving image), but figured the OP couldn't have possibly been pissed off about, well, something that might save the screen from burn in due to a static image!

I would have researched it, but that would take Internet access. Well, I *have* Internet, but it is not unlimited. Have to save it up for a rainy day.

It hasn't happened to us but there is apparently a problem that Directtv is aware of.

Apparently after several hours of watching TV with NO use at all of the remote, some people have had the screensaver come on.  It goes off as soon as you hit anything on the remote according to Directtv and some people have had results hitting dash dash dash and turning the screensaver off. We probably ALWAYS hit something on the remote far more often than that

It seems to have changed after the last software update.

Directtv is aware of it but nobody on the forum I was reading knew when it would be resolved.

Sorry for the bad information.

No, the screen saver does not come on when you are watching TV.  It only comes on after a pretty long period (not sure, never timed it) when it's on a screen that doesn't change, like a menu or something.

Normally you never even know it's there.

It's certainly not obstrusive at all, I have no problem with it because I'm used to them on my computers.

Pretty trivial, maybe the OP should start a class action law suit though, or maybe it's a case of bait and switch. I'm not sure :-) Those seem pretty popular.

So it comes up *while* you are watching TV?

If so, that is pretty friggin' lame. It sounds like a small thing, but it would sure piss me off. Imagine watching a game, and the thing comes up on a key play?
