My side mirror broke off and I needed a new one. Mothers day weekend, kids football practice, work, errands and family dinners. I ordered driver side mirror from discountautomirrors.com, the side mirror cost around 15 dollars, I needed overnight shipping so I clicked it to reveal the cost of 28 dollars with handling it all came out to 52 dollars. I clicked order and got a confirmation saying my order was complete on their site as well as my email. I got a reciept which I still have as well.

I was in such desperate need of this mirror so much I called their customer support and asked if everything went through. They reassured me the order was completed and everything was fine. I got an email asking about their customer support as proof that I called them after my purchase. A couple hours later I got back from my son's football practice and say an email that had been sent recently, it was from the company stating and I quote from the email...

"We deeply apologize for the inconvenience of not being able to provide you with the accurate shipping cost when you placed your order. The accurate total OVERNIGHT shipping charge is $49.00. Please call us to speak with one of our Customer Protection Representatives who can assist you in making the additional payment of $20.28. You may contact us between 6:30am to 9:00pm Pacific Time, Monday to Friday. (Do NOT reply to this email as your order cannot be processed unless you call).

Once this additional payment is applied, your order will be shipped."

Monday - Friday meaning their offices was closed, my money was pending so it was on hold and I could not access it and my mirror was on hold. Finally I called them today and dispite my calm tone and understanding towards the mistakes I know it is illegal to add additional charges to a purchase once the customer and employee complete the transaction. They did NOT have any fine print saying shipping rates my vary AFTER a purchase was complete. Amazon, Ebay, Google and other major online business update shipping cost BEFORE the customer buys a product.

On the phone they demanded I either pay the extra $20.28 or cancel the purchase. They did not care that it was an illegal mistake, they did not care for the trouble it caused and the entire conversation sounded like: either give me more money or cancel it.

I cancelled my order, I still can not drive my truck legally, I can not order new mirrors from some other website because it takes 3-7 buisness to cancel a transaction and have the money back in my account and I can not do anything against this but warn fellow people not to buy from this buisness. Not only is their buisness handled in a shaddy manor but they do not care for your best interest and I doubt they even know what customer service is. If any other buisness made this mistake they would wave the extra 20 dollars out of compensating for their mistake.

I am almost positive what happened is illegal, they did not have fine print about this, they did not tell before I made my purchase and they didn't even tell me about the extra charge after I made my purchase and was on the phone with them. It wasn't until long after I made that purchase did they throw in an extra 20 dollars. I would like to take legal action against this, not for me and not because I want to get back at them... just for the sake of consumer rights.
