in the summer of 2000 i went to get new tires on my car. i should add i am female and have an older model car, a '93 cavalier. nothing fancy but paid for. when i walked in the place, i was the only woman in there. they left me sit for about 15 minutes until i walked up to the counter and asked for help. the salesman looked at me and said "one moment". he continued to chat with the other customers (the one man had a fancy cadillac and the other had a jeep cherokee), needless to say they were buying expensive tires.

finally he got around to waiting on me and presumed to tell me what the cheapest tires in the store were, as if i had no money. i assured him i was well able to take care of a higher priced tire so he gave me the next cheapest! how rude and snooty he was! he talked me into buying a useless "road warranty" that they never to this day have given me the card for so it was no good (it needed a manager's signature and they convieniently didn't sign it).

when it was my turn to have the tires put on, they told me to drive my car into bay one" and then walked away. i had stood there watching them drive cars for men into these bays, and although i'm no bloomin' idiot, this was the first time to buy tires here. i had NO idea what to do so i got in my car and drove around there. the tire guy told me to drive up on in there and stated that he "didn't have all day".

after a little while, the guy told me that my car was ready and actually THREW me my keys from inside my car.just tossed them at me. i felt totally humiliated and drove away in tears. one thing they didn't know: i was extremely ill at that time and had a large tumor removed not long after. maybe they'd better treat people better??? (my husband was not too happy either and vowed never to return there as he had always used them).

he spoke to the manager who really didn't give a hoot whatsoever. being in the retail business, i have heard MANY complaints about this group. beware.

I have worked for Discount Tire for 7 years. Let me first explain what a great company it is that I work for. The gentleman who started this company was one of pioneers of "The Customer is Always Right". We are in business because of you the customer, and we will always do whatever it takes for your complete satifaction. I apologize for the treatment that you received. As far as the road hazard you were speaking of, what we offer is a certificate for free replacement. This is a 100% replacement warranty against road hazard and defects for the life of the tire. There is no card for this, so I feel that it must not have been properly explained to you. We do not make commissioned sales on any item or service that we sell.

When pulling in cars it depends on the store and other factors. We generally leave the decision to you, but in some cases due to parking lot size or bay size we may request to pull in your car for you. I sincerely apologize for the hassle that you went through. I love the company I work for, because we do not do business that way. I would ask that you give us another chance. Call the manager of the store that you went to, and explaine what happened and he will do what it takes to earn the right of having you as our customer

If you had taken the time to do a little research before you walked into any tire store you would know what to ask for and what you would expect to pay.

I am a 39 year old woman and I happen to be looking for some nice rims for my chevy avalanche.

While looking up Discount Tire, I was directed to this site, and out of curiousity I read your comment.. (in disbelief!) I think you are full of it!

What are u thinking, u expect a red carpet to rollout and you be carried from your car and helped in front of everyone. No discount tire co knows the customer is always right. I have bought all my tires there i trust them with all my female relatives. They are fair as can be. You have to keep in mind there is always going be a complaint. They (employees) are human too. did you let anyone know u felt neglected, no b/c i am confident that they would do their best to acomidate u. They have never had a card for warrantee, and have never need a manager to sign the warrantee. tThey give their employees power to take care of the problem and satisfy the customer. If you read the reciept you signed you will see how the warrantee works also. Frankly I think you a one of those dumb people who only like to complain and think they are perfect

I, too, have bought about 16 to 18 sets of tires from the local Discount Tire Store. Overall they've been quite competetive on price, and posess "touch free" equipment for cast and / or plated wheels. Sam's club, on one (and the last)purchase ripped the hell out of a set of Enki 'mag' wheels on my wife's car.

I agree with Nancy that they're "a little rough around the edges". The local store is SO busy, continually, a wait is usually necessary. It sure as hell isn't because the employees move slowly. I've often wondered what motivates them to work at a continual warp speed.

The only problem I've had (and continue to have) is failure to properly balance the wheels/tires on my motorhome. I should've known better than to not buy the usual Michelins; I think the cheapie "Fisk" tires are partly at fault.

As a side note I've NEVER had a problem with Michelin tires. I cheaped out one time and bought Pirellis at Sam's for three vehicles. With hat in hand I went back to discount tire and exchanged the poory constructed, crappy Pirellis (posessing excessive run-out) for Michelins. An expensive lesson. I think my motorhome is next.

As noted previously, Discount fixes flats free on ANY tire (that's repairable) regardless of where it came from. The only charge that's excessive (IMHO) is the charge for valve stems and their d**n "tire certificates". I've found them quite flexible on pricing these items, however. The sales staff must get one hellofa bonus for selling the "certificates". On more than one occasion, when I refused the certificates, the deal was re-written (lower tire price)to INCLUDE the certificates in the quoted "non certificate" price. Go figure!

I also have used discount tire for many years and have always not only been happy with their service but amazed that they do it. They have built quite a reputation by making ,great service at an incredible price, their mission. I've had flats fixed free while I waited when other places insisted I leave it and pay. They work hard to satisfy customers and I only hope they keep doing so. They are a breath of fresh air in this "max profit right now, d**n the customer" world.

Three Cheers for Discount Tire.

No I don't work there.

Donna,

I've used Discount Tire Co. for at least 10 years. I've rarely had a problem and when there is one it is fixed.

Do you walk into McDonald's and expect someone to come to your seat and take your order? I think not. There is NO tire store that I know of that works this way. You NEED to go to the counter and be helped.

If the sales person was helping you, would you enjoy them starting a conversation with a different customer BEHIND you? NO you wouldn't. The other customers were there FIRST. You need to learn to wait your turn, PATIENTLY! I have little regard for people who think they deserve more or better service than anyone else.

Looking at the name Discount Tire Co., I get the impression that they offer lower prices than the competitors. They ALWAYS tell you of the lowest price option first. Unless you were looking at the monitor, how would you know whether or not he was offering you the cheapest or the most expensive tires in the shop?

The tire warranty is good NATIONWIDE and is on the receipt they gave you when you paid for your tires. That little folder they handed you is supposed to go into your glove compartment. This way if you have a problem, you are ready to take it to any store. Should you not have the receipt, they can even call the store you purchased your tires at and get the info. Cards cost money, and if they went through the trouble to print up cards, they would no longer be called Discount Tire Co.

Also remember this: when you get a flat (not if...when), Discount Tire fixes it for FREE!! They even do this if you didn't purchase your tires at their company. Of course you will have to WAIT YOUR TURN!!

If you leave your keys at the counter they will drive it into the bay. Insurance policies generally state that they should do this anyway. However, Discount Tire Co. does what the customer generally wants. Most people don't want dirty tire changers driving their cars (I don't). Maybe you don't care with your older car, but most would like to drive their own car into the bay. Also signs are posted that only employees are allowed into the work area. I always hang around while they are rotating my tires (which the do for free regardless of where the tires were purchased).

I'm sorry to say, but you should not be treated any different just because you were ill and had a tumor removed. How lame!! But, if they did know (only if you said something) I'm guessing that you would have been treated a little better.

The one point I agree with you is the throwing of the keys to you, though I have doubts that it happened as you describe. Was the person inside your car or were you? You are not very clear on this fact. Also, if you drove your car into the bay, why did they have the keys in the first place?? If the employee drove your car out of the service bay, the car should have remained running or at least the keys still in the ignition. Several things do not make sense on this statement and therefore seem a little embelished.

You lack of knowledge of how Discount Tire Co. operates, the company's general policies, you illness and plain stupidity led you to write a comment that is unwarranted. I also find that you have fabricated several of these situations or placed a little "fertilizer" on to make the small issues grow a little.

In the end, dumb people get what they deserve.

Fraud is wilful deceit or trickery. Donna was not deceived. She just had her little feelings hurt. I have used Discount Tires for many years. Yes, they are a little rough around the edges, but if you walk in and sit down waiting to be helped, you will never be helped. Most people know that you must walk up to the counter and wait your turn. I have bought the road hazard. There is no card! I do not know what card you are talking about. You just bring in your receipt from the purchase of the tires. Donna, get real! If you expect to be treated like a princesses at a discount tire store, you will have a long wait!
