This company started off with an interest rate of 8.99, now it's 19.99 interest and 20.99 cash advance interest. I have paid the account as agreed, and call to find out why the interest rate went up so high and ask that the interest rate be lowered. Their response, this account is not eligible for interest reduction. I ask why? she could not tell me.

I feel this is a complete rip off, as they started with one interest rate and as soon as you charged or tranfer another card that was of higher interst rate, they increased their interest rate, and the way the payments are set up. I will never pay them off, because the payments only pay the interest rate.

I knew it couldn't last!

No one said it wasn't ok to vent here. But don't call me " this rude, insensitive, and poor excuse for a human being." Especially since it is like the pot calling the kettle black, Ms. Hypocrite!

Anyway, my post merely shows that there are two sides to every story. And there is another side to Sheila's. She can yell all she wants, but that doesn't mean no one is allowed to "yell" back. So I am "yelling" back.

Deal with it or go away, because I am here to stay.

Sheila: You can be vague if you want!

Sheila, this is a forum where you can be as vague or as specific as you want. You need to be specific if you want to address DIScover personally, but in this forum it is a place to vent. Vent away! You are not alone! Many, many people are complaining about DIScover and their dissatisfaction with the company's service (or rather, DIS-service). That's what this site is here for - otherwise, do you think people would need to post here? Not if they were being satisfactorily taken care of by the businesses they wouldn't. So, feel free to ignore this rude, insensitive, and poor excuse for a human being. And yes, it is a scam and a rip off! They don't even have to have a reason (and obviously they didn't or else they would have said, right?). Dump your DIScover card (if you haven't already) and go elsewhere. You don't need them, and they obviously by their customer-abusive ways don't need or WANT you!

Maybe you can transfer the balance to a lower APR credit card to get DIScover paid off and the monkey off your back. Even a loan from a credit union or bank would be better than continuing on with them. Good luck to you.

Sheila, it is a nice thing to complain when you're upset, but to be fair, your complaint is very vague. You say you paid as agreed but still got a higher interest rate. Your message does not really state under what terms the 8.99% was offered...so I am going to assume that it was a special, limited time offer made to new customers that does not last forever...it would naturally expire after 6, 9, or 12 months and revert to a higher rate.

If this is not the case, I can only guess that something you have done caused the rate to increase:

1. Late payments...not just with Discover Card (so you MIGHT have paid US as agreed, but missed payments w/ another creditor)

2. Bankruptcies, judgements, liens. We reserve the right (and tell you so in your CARDMEMBER AGREEMENT) to review your entire credit report from time to time. If we see any derogatory info there (even if it is not yours...ie: fraud) we reserve the right to increase your credit APR without warning or prior notice. If there is derogatory info on your credit file caused by a fraud situation, work w/ the credit reporting agencies to get that information removed from your report.

3. You exceeded the credit line on your discover card or any other account on your credit file.

We don't hike up the rates unless your credit file shows somethng bad or you have defaulted w/ us...or if that was just the deal you struck with us when you applied. So if you have a better explanation of the situation, please do feel free to share it.
