Our Dish Network service is currently turned off. My fiance' has just returned to work because of an injury and was on workman's comp. Dish Network knew this and that we were going to work with them to pay the bill. Keeping my gas and electric turned on in Pennsylvania, in the middle of winter is more important than having TV.

This morning (3/3/06) I got on my computer and went to my banks website to see what had come through. There are two transactions from Dish, one for $335.66 and another for $41.95. Neither one was authorized. I call them. The dish is in my fiance's name. I ask for billing, and ask what is going on. They tell me that since we haven't paid the bill and the equipment has not been returned they are charging me for it, then I tell them that that is bull and I want the money returned. Then they tell me that they can't speak with me, they have to speak with William (my fiance). I tell them that I am authorized to call about this account and that my card is the one that is being charged, not his. I think it is funny that they will talk to me to take my money but when I call about this they won't. I don't doubt for one second that charging for the equipment isn't in the fine print. It is just their way of taking the money. No warning, no nothing. The two transactions are on my bank account, but they have not yet cleared. My bank opens at 10 and I will be there to stop both transactions. It's going to cost me $60, but I am already $136.00 in the hole, with more coming. If I stop them I won't be in the hole, so it will be worth it. I suggest to all of you to read your fine print. I will update on what happens.

My g/f canceled her Dish service in Oct, when she was no longer able to get service at her location (she was living in temp housing while her new home was set). In Jan, Dish hit her with $400. in charges for her equipment. They claimed that she never canceled, and they now wanted the equipment back. Further investigation, and the customer service rep claims to have sent out the boxes for the equipment return in late Oct (ok, but I thought she never canceled????). They sent her new boxes to pack the equipment in, and low and behold, 3 weeks later, she got her money back. She's now a HAPPY customer of Charter, her money is back, and she'll never go back to satelite again!

While you may not get your monthly service charges back from Dish, there's a good likelihood of getting your equipment charge back if you send them their equipment (call them for boxes). Check out another tv service (directv or cable), and LOSE the DISH!!!!

Good Luck!!!

I would doubt at least for ten second. Please, check your contract. There should be a long section with the title: Unreturned Equipment Charges (or something similar). Then another one something : Collection of Fees, Credit/Debit Card Authorization.

After reading the contract, I would recommend to return all the equipments, as a start your fight.

Good luck.
