Dish Network, Division Of Echostar ripoff Palatine Illinois
We used Dish Network programming for approximately 6 years, and attempted to renew our annual contract with them for programming in Oct, 2002.
When we received billing, it was $50+ higher than it had been for the previous 12 months. (We actually paid annually to save, and received approx one month free programming for the annual arrangement).
I called and requested a discount, to bring it in line with what we were willing to pay, and spoke with Tori I.D.#18X, who finalized a discount which amounted to nearly a $100 saving, which brought it below the amount we'd paid the previous year. I was skeptical that she could actually authorize that much of a reduction, so asked for an authorization guarantee. She gave me an authorization number, #016885. I asked if that covered everthing, to assure that there'd be no additional charges added, and she assured me that the agreed upon amount would be for one full year of programming, no added charges.
We had just opened a new account with Discover, and decided to use the Discover card, instead of GM Master, which we'd previously used, so when we switched, asked them to cancel our account through GM, and use Discover exclusively.
After the agreed upon charge appeared on our Discover card, even before it was time to pay the monthly Discover charges, we received billing from Dish Network on our supposedly closed GM Mastercard, for $43.81. We called and asked why the additional charges, when we'd been guaranteed that the charges agreed to through Discover billing would be the full amount we'd be billed for, and why they hadn't closed their use of the GM account, as we'd requested. They refused to drop the additional charges, so we cancelled our service with them, and contacted both credit card companies, and put both charges in dispute status.
The agreed upon charges for the annual fee on Discover were subsequently credited to our Discover card, but we never heard any confirmation from GM that the $43.81 had been credited back to that card. We never authorized payment of it, of course, as we'd cancelled our programming.
We never heard any more from Dish until Feb, then they began billing us again, for $43.81.
We then were contacted by a collection agency
in March, 2003.
We paid for the programming we received from Dish Network for those 6 years, and do not owe them a cent, yet they keep trying to collect this amount, fraudulently.
We're submitting this complaint as a rebuttal to their contacting a collection agency to attempt to collect moneys from us that we do not owe.
Our Account # with Dish was 8255 90 910 0510566.
