DISH Network I got into a 24 month agreement that I thought meant that their equiptment was supposed to work properly. Internet
I am renting a DVR from Dish Network that has not worked properly from the beginning. I made several calls to their help line and they would get the unit working for a while but I'd have the same problem soon after. Finally someone told me I should send the unit back.
They replaced the unit via UPS and it worked great until today. So I called again. The supersivor I spoke to could see in the records that I have called several times within their 60 day guarantee period with this complaint but because I did not request a service peron come out during this 60 day period, they are now insisting on charging me to have the service person out. Keep in mind that their service person installed the DVR to begin with. It has been three and a half months.
Oh yeah, I pay for their "Service Plan" as well but apparently you pay to maintain the equipment you rent even with a "service plan". Good deal for them I guess.
At this point it would cost me $350 to cancel the agreement. Don't they have to provide equipment that functions properly? Is this even legal? It seems that they should be held accountable in some manor to provide the service/equiptment they are offering.

You know what is really funny about the whole thing. Is that I'm required by Dish Network business rules to give a 6 months warranty on new installs and upgrades. But i give a 1 year warranty on new installs and upgrades. See what you got out of it a 60 day warranty. Directv is the same way with a 90 day warranty. I have more faith in their equipment and my abilites than they do.
Everybody wants free free free. But never takes into account what kind of service they are going to be getting. I can say from experience that nobody reads the contact. I've got 5 pages to my invoice now plus the contract and nobody takes the time to read them.
I even go has far as to pass out blank copies of the contract and invoice. I did a new install a couple months ago. before i leave i explain everything again to the customer. He said i better get a one year warranty with this. i repeated this statement to him ; I'm only required by Dish Network to give you a 6 month waranty . that as long as you do business with me i will give you a one year warranty. That was the third time i had said this to him. Also it stated the same thing on my invoice. People don't read and that is the plain truth.
I realize that i have to explain everything to the customer. That their is a lot of information given out at the time. It's hard to remember everything said to you. But is'nt it still your responsiblity to read before you sign. I know alot of you have been lied to and cheated . I got a long time friend. That had a problem years ago . Getting her 100.00 rebate from Dish. In three separate Phone calls to their csr's. I lied to her about the rebated, i cheated her out of the rebate and the third phone the csr told my friend that i had gone out of business.
Their are independent dealers out their. That know what they are doing. I often wonder why the manufacturer are made out to be the saints and im the liar. Until the customer realizes they made a mistake.
Don't get me wrong I have made some mistakes in my many years doing this ( 26 years ). But i go in and do thing Dish and Directv wont do . Dish as made it so easy for me to do the installs i wnat to do.
If you have seen the AT&T comerical about U-verse and the ability to watch all the DVR'S in all the rooms. Please I've been doing that with Dish Network's equipment for the past almost 4 years. I havent done one yet. I havent founf the right customer yet. But i can do 6 DVR's and with the 512 receiver they make 8 Dvr's. on the 512 you cant watch all 8 DVR's , but you can watch one record one. Record two and playback one according to Dish Network. Along with sending all DVR's to all the tv's in the house. I can also send the DVD Player and the local tv antenna.
My advise to everyone is call around to several dealers, ask lots of questions, ask for blanks of the contract and their invoice ( even if you get a blank Dish Network contract. Please also read the one you sign before signing it. Dish Network does reserve the right to change the contents of the contract at anytime. Without any written or verbal notification to you the consumer. This also goes for the dealers invoice ).
Taking time to read and do your homework . Before you rush to the install. Just might have made your experience a little more pleasant.
I can't be the only dealer out their capable of doing these things. Also i charge my customers 50.00 for a service call after the one year warranty.
I recently went out on a job. Where the lady told me she called Dish Network to come out and work on her satellite. She had replaced the carpet with woood flooring. she tried to reconnect the tv and lost the pic in the living room and bedroom. She had a dual tuner 322 receiver. i turned the tv on in the living room and then walked into the bedroom. I explained that the bedroom tv wasn't either connected in the livingroom or the tv was in cable mode. I put the bedroom tv into air mode got her pic back their and went back to the livingroom. pulled the receiver out to find the coax wasn't connected to the tv.
In the end she told me that the service tech form Dish Network was there an hour and couldnt figure it out. She asked me why their tech couldn't have done that. I told her lack of experience and i wasnt really there to cut the other tech down. Just their to do my job. I was in and out in 15 minutes and she glady paid me. I did a job the other day where the owner paid me an extra 40.00 dollars for my work. I also had a cutomer i went out on . That i didn't even do the original install for. Asked me when i got done fixing her satellite. If it was alright to call me instead of calling Dish Network. she had two different techs out and couldn't fix it.
I have one customer who has a big dish. Called Dish Network out to install a system. After three months their tech's couldn't fix the screw up they did. He had them come pull their equipment. I went out and fix their mistakes. A month later he called me Directv came out and screwed up the wiring on his sytem. After a year now the Directv tech's cant fix his system. I talked to his neighbor later and they described the wiring in the livingroom. I told the neighbor what was wrong over the phone. Then told him to have the owner call Directv and come out to putll out the signal combiner in the livingroom. The system already had one in the bedroom. Cant have two unless you know what your doing.
Find you a real dealer who knows what they are doing. Then be happy to pay for their work . What good does it do to pay for 0 or 15 dollars service calls when the tech don't know what they are doing.......
It's all about the research and the reading the paperwork before you sign............
